E3

I’m a little disappointed that Supermassive became a VR team and not a TV game team.

As someone who is still on previous-gen systems: does anyone else get the feeling that the graphics on these games Weren’t Great? I’m assuming that everything being played at E3 is either on the Pro or the Xbox X. I know you can only really see the details at 4K, but…I feel very underwhelmed. Maybe my vision is going and I can’t see the jaggies like I used to.

oh shit I forgot about the most important question of E3: did aisha tyler reprise her role as ubisoft host lady, tasked with escorting a bunch of timid frenchmen she’s 3 feet taller than?

No, Aisha Tyler was absent this year

Instead we got Mario XCOM

Also, I have to say that I’ve got a weird boner going for Shadow of Mordor and its new sequel. It’s contrary to all sense. The trailer I saw today had a fucking RIDING LION do STEALTH and JUMP UP BUILDINGS, STORY BY STORY. I don’t know whether I think it’s idiotic that they put in Battle-Cat from He-Man or if I’m a manbaby and think it’s grrrreat.

video compression eats fine details, but the biggest rendering differences in the past half-decade have been screen-space reflections on everything and baby steps towards global illumination through light volumes (i.e., light reflecting off an orange wall coloring nearby surfaces orange)

If you find shots of a game looking very bright and saturated it’s due to techniques like these

Toll I want you to know that tonight I’m debating making a Legendary gear upgrade challenge be based on stealth-killing an enemy with a Battle Cat

I don’t really notice lighting and reflections and turn them off in games where I can. Could be all that processing power is going into details my brain is weirdly programmed to just not notice.

you’ll notice that in the last few years shallow puddles have proliferated in games because it’s the ultimate in shinies and color-changing based on camera movement

I actually WAS thinking to myself how many game trailers I’ve seen at E3 had some sort of water element to them!

I went back and watched the Beyond Good and Evil 2 trailer.

Uh. Playing the original for the first time a few years ago I can safely say did not prepare me for a sequel that seems like an R-rated Fifth Element.

But whatever I’ll take a foul mouthed monkey guy blasting French hip hop because why the hell not.

the rabbids are too disgusting to enjoy a mario xcom, gonna just download XCOM for my phone instead

like it’s incredible that we live in an age of Minons and Rabbids are still somehow way worse

I honestly don’t mind Minions and Rabbids. I just can’t stand them when they stand alone. They’re an accessory and should be nothing more.

Gonna call this E3 a solid shrug.

I doubt Nintendo can match something like Breath of the Wild. Mostly just expecting them to be spinning their wheels.

With how this has gone, Nintendo is either gonna amaze or manage to disappoint people more than thought possible.

Tomorrow morning, MIyamoto will announce that Breath of the Wild will be deleted from all systems by the end of his presentation.

A vita is pretty cool to have! I don’t recommend one though.

Mario dons BotW Link Cosplay for his trip to New Donk City Comicon

I mean it seems trite but would love to know how many hours a week the guys making Detroit are working. You know since it is about a slave class and injustice.
