E3 2021 --- directly into our veins

Now I may be cynical, but I think some people see this as innovating on dialog mechanics. But I’m not sure if using centuries old systems with new names can really be called innovating dialog in games. Some of the talk about these things seems pretentious in that way at least.

Yeah, I’m making an unfair generalization here, cuz I’ve only played like 45 minutes of Signs of the Sojourner & have only watched the trailer for Tracks of Thought. But as u mentioned the emphasis being on “innovating dialogue” always sort of seems 2 frame these games in a way that most of the fun is going “oh thats kind of a clever way to represent this” rather than actually grappling with this long tradition of card games as a social object that gains value by utilizing these very open signifiers of traditional playing cards.

would you believe it didn’t even occur to me that unleashed was represented in generations

Ironically when I saw that part of the trailer I said “big oof” and had to think about my soundboard to original sentence ratio

There is a game to be made about nonverbal life, though. Just having to communicate with a real-world speech generation interface would be better than any existing dialogue system I can think of

It would be nice if real life dialog highlighted important words and hyperlinked them for you to ask about but c’est la vie

That’s fair but I was more putting it in line with the Predator and Friday the 13th asymmetrical multiplayer games, which have an abysmal player base, if you can call it that. Like, 50 and 250 players respectively.

Well that was pretty much the polished visual style direct, which makes sense given it was by a film festival.

Hoping for Timesplitters news.

Edit: this is probably the most boring E3 presentation I’ve ever seen. Softball questions about how excited developers are for the publisher brand that they are collaborating with and minimal game footage. Some games are just discussed and not even shown.

I don’t know what’s going on here but man I feel bad for the presenters.

I thought the evil koch brothers had infiltrated vidcons for a second but actually, Koch media was made by another, more German, presumably unrelated Koch guy

oh wow, i’d just assumed it was the Koch i’ve heard of because of… sports? doesn’t make much difference either way.

Ubisoft about to announce kingdom Battle 2 $

Or even better, zelda hyrule battle $$$

They would never dare to announce a smash bros branded kingdom battle $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $$$_____$$$$$$$$$$

tbqh this would fit in with Nintendo’s recent approach of trying to make zelda an annualized franchise
