dragon’s doggin’ 2: you can roleplay garfield and jon in this one probably

yeah there’s a trust in the player evident in the stories that @geist has been posting that’s really interesting - it feels like the devs trust the player to either understand enough about the way that narrative is delivered in games to ignore or compartmentalize the weird things that happen during exposition like the pawns running around during a big cutscene, OR be chuffed that dumb shit like that happens during this extremely serious narrative

i mean maybe they’re playing it totally straight but whatever it’s fun

Oh yeah I started playing last night, here’s my Arisen and Pawn:

I don’t play PC games much but heard the game runs badly on console, so I took the plunge to PC and I’m getting so confused by the Xbox buttons. Wish there was an option to switch to Playstation layout

I forgot how meta the story was. Can someone refresh my memory on the ending of the original game? I can’t tell if I dreamed it up or if it was from something I read about the original pitch:

Was the ending something like the dragon is actually an Arisen and in the final battle, you go into an alternate dimension and fight yourself in space to sit on a throne for some reason? Or did I make that up. I remember the moon being a final dungeon was only in the pitch and was never made, but can’t remember if the “fighting yourself” was a real thing or just a dream I conjured

Anyway, I like that pawns will sometimes wait for a high five after a battle, but not in an overt way, just hanging back with their arm out and if you don’t get to them in time to slap them back, they lower their hand sadly and look a little disappointed. Perfect animation.

DD1 spoiles Gransys (the world) is locked in an eternal cycle, every Arisen must slay a Dragon but once they do the world falls into deeper chaos and they must face the Seneschal who watches over the world and replace them, or (failing that) must become the next Dragon

When you get to the point of no return to meet the Seneschal you walk through a dimensional tunnel where every friend you’ve met during the game tries to stop you and hold you back from meeting your destiny and its actually really emotional for a game who’s cast is as underbaked as Dragons Dogma. and then once you’re Seneschal all you can do is watch the world go by forever until you choose to kill yourself with a magic dagger. and then your pawn is reborn in your body and it’s a real weird metaphysical ending that i absolutely found a way to read as trans lol

“Adding the option to start a new game when save data already exists.” alright im used to day one patches by now but, guys, come on

I wonder if that’s complicated in this case because pawns exist forever on the server.

What if someone deletes their character when their pawn is in someone else’s world? (Or favorites/history?) Maybe they will explain how it works after they make that change.

I mean by dragon’s dogma standards it would be totally normal and expected for the pawn to at that point go “oh noooooooooo” in the middle of someone else’s quest and vanish

If anything, pawns say the word aught even more in this game.

And something I’ve noticed is that when a pawn says there’s aught around (as opposed to specifically saying a treasure chest, ladder, or riftstone), they are talking about a seeker token.

Last night I tentatively tried fighting a griffin for the first time. I climbed on its back and was treated to a nice view as it took flight (until it landed again and threw me off in a way that kind of glitched me into a cliff face for a minute).

I started out as an archer with my pawn a fighter. When both hit their max vocation levels I just swapped their classes and equipment. The SotC monster climbing never gets old.

beat a drake and completed the first sphinx riddle last night. I feel like I lose track of time playing this in a way I haven’t with a game in a v long time, apparently I have 30 hours on it but it feels so much less than eg the 30 I’ve spent on ffviir2. however I desperately want a coop mode where my pawn argues with someone else’s about who has the better arisen.

Hell yeah, this rules

I guess I never beat the first game because my only recollection of all this is watching the ending on youtube and thinking, “oh dang I didn’t realize I was that far from the end, what is all this”

One of my favorite memories of DD1 was doing an escort mission that I was really really underleveled for and just barely surviving by running away while continuously lifting and throwing my escortee down the road like a sack of laundry while being chased down the neck by drakes or some other kind of strong monster I never fought before lol

One of my strongest memories of drag dog was my friend very loudly complaining about being forced to fuck Feste the jester while i got Madeleine, who has big boobs. Top ten game of all time

I got FUCKING JULIEN EVEN THOUGH I MURDERED HIM. cute witch girl was LITERALLY RIGHT THERE WATCHING. you had it in the bag, dragon’s dog!

Did you talk to Julien more than any NPC? That’s like literally all it’s based on. Madeleine is a merchant and had quests so I was talking to her a lot, it’s extremely funny. Who the fuck talks to Feste a billion times??

I heard that they eventually changed the coefficient for merchants because everyone got merchants and it was weird. no idea how I got julien though, I only ever talked to him to deliver meat to the dudes, and then I murdered him for mercedes and brought him back to life because you get a shield for doing that and even though I would never ever use that shield, I’m what you’d call a ‘POWER GAMER,’ buddy. maybe he and my arisen lady get off on that kind of stuff, who knows. maybe selene also counts as a merchant since she’s the beer lady? that’s probably the problem! but then what is the wedding ring for? they only make one of those, lady!

Dang it, I got a random escort quest from this cat lady but I wasn’t paying attention on where she wanted to go so now I don’t know what to do

She looks like this

Nobody online mentions her, what do I dooooo

Oh yeah bringing the guy back to life is what did the trick lol i mean i’d have some complex feelings about the person who did that whatever their motivation. if you hadn’t done it might have been Mercedes

Actually looking online it’s based specifically on the last person you talked to with max affinity before going off to meet the dragon (if there’s more than one candidate) so it’s even dumber than you think

if you do the rescue her from the village mob quest Selene moves into your house anyway! :teleshrug:

im looking forward to having a whole team of lady pawns and hearing them go “wow is it just me or is the Arisen a huge lesbo? like im not complaining or anything but dang girl way to be thirsty on main”

My all lady teams are usually stoked about being babes. A lot of times one of them is like “not to be too bold but my other arisens would always be sleeping w people”. And it’s like I’m trying.
