Tutorial pawn getting eaten by tentacles in a small pond:
the elves sent me on a quest cause their elf glade is broken so I spent several hours traveling south, involving a perilous illegal nighttime border crossing, to talk to some dwarf who was supposed to be able to help and when I finally got there he immediately told me to fuck off.
we got to ride cable cars through the desert, though
it gives you a hard save you can roll back to
Too many white pawns
i found a riftstone out in the wild and when i went inside every single pawn was named jeff or some variety of jeff

I helped a boy fool his sick mom so he could buy her magic medicine flowers.
She went upstairs to talk to the maid who enabled the whole situation.
Then she ran back down the stairs, slapped me, and got merc’d by my posse of pawns. Wtf
They were looking out for you homie. She disrespected you.
All those people naming their main pawn “MainPawn” are violating the Categorical Imperative.
I only hire the ones with normal or creative names that aren’t obvious references to anything.
Today I hired a couple pawns that were slightly above my level, so I had to spend some of those crystals on them. Within minutes, they both fell in the ocean. And it wasn’t even during a fight.
According to a friend, there’s a thing going around where your pawns can catch something called dragonsplague where they can catch it from fighting dragon or wyvern-type creatures, or can catch it from a pawn that already has it. If you go to sleep at an inn, if you have an infected pawn, they can spread it to, and kill, all the NPCs in the city before you wake up.
This kind of shit is great.
Do the pawns get respawned if you go to a rift crystal?
Also the tombs fucking rule. The mom who slapped me wasn’t there (yet) but the spy following me was so I got to continue that quest line. I don’t care so much about that quest line but also I don’t not care about it so it was neat having that opportunity. Definitely want to res mom tho
Also is this game secretly inspired by Red Dead?
In my experience, no. Only MainPawn comes back spontaneously in that way. Any others you have to hire again at one of the major town riftstones if you want them back.
But I like the ways the game encourages you to swap your pawns out. For example, one thing that I didn’t understand at first is the “forgotten riftstones” that you occasionally come across. They seem to present you with a single random pawn at a level that you’d normally have to pay for, but free.
I could wait to play DD2 and just abide with replaying the first one. But stuff like this is the source of a near irresistible fomo to me.
the names of the pawns I recruit seem to change at random between what I assume are their actual name and their moniker? I assumed only the moniker would be shown online, others should only know my enormous cat man companion Donovan as Dog.
noticed this too, my impression is that i get their names but if i like rest mode my console or something they change to monikers until i either stay at an inn or maybe touch a rift stone? as if reconnecting. anecdotal though~
It was annoyingly far back to the town after rescuing the guy’s brother, so I took a little side trip to kill a giant (went just fine) and explore a nearby cave (all my pawns and the brother got eaten by slimes).
When I touched a riftstone to revive my main pawn, his first words were “I sense a good item nearby” as his revival animation was ongoing
im so psyched this game got a big press release and now everyone gets to play Dragons Dogma
It, sounds, so much exactly what made the first game perfect lol
Like tell me i better carry things that are aught of use
Dragon’s Dogma’s fiction is underrated, it’s extremely bottom shelf fantasy bullshit in a way that no other video game has ever done that i can think of & then it gets transcendently awesome in the endgame in a way i can only really compare to EarthBound. Fucking weird game
