Mr. Driller Drill Land PS4 & PS5 is $8.99 (from $29.99) through the 14th…but that sale price only shows up for me through the web site:

When I went to the store on my PS4, it only offered me the regular $29.99 price. : P So I bought it through the web site. Is this a regular thing? Is my PS4 just not refreshing the product entry, maybe? The Steam version is NOT on sale currently, which seems odd as well.

I was gonna be happy with the free “Demo Vers.” for a while since it lets you play the regular 500m challenge and historically that’s all the Driller I can do before I start getting freaked out about inevitable suffocating death, and anyway I would probably be much less likely to get fed up with a free demo…but oh well whatever. Somewhat unusually (I think?), the demo (266 MB) and full version (1.83 GB) are separate SKUs or whatever, so you can have both installed. (When I was going to checkout on the web site for the full version, it warned me “You already own another edition”–the demo, I guess).

The PC adaptation of Gloomhaven is going to be free on Epic next week. First thing in a while they’ve offered that I’m really stoked about. (I’ve wanted to play the board game for ages but despair of ever having the opportunity).

Gloomhaven’s an interesting case because the difficulty level is so high—we tended to interpret ambiguous rules in more player-favorable ways just because it was so punishing to spend an hour or two on a dungeon and fail our objective.

The PC game takes out all the setup time and gives you difficulty options, but it kind of ruined the tabletop game for me since all those points of ambiguity are no longer ambiguous!

Took advantage of a short-lived sale at Target to impulse-buy an Xbox Series S for $50 off. The IGN ad that pointed me toward the deal also implied that it came with an extra free controlller? I saw no indication of that in my order details so I guess I’ll see when I go pick it up in a while. Early birthday present to myself.

good deal either way! i stand by it being the only reasonable console purchase atm

Yeah, no extra controller, maybe I missed out on a “while supplies last” portion of the promo or IGN was full of beans. Either way I’m happy. Probably won’t bother hooking it up etc., until I move into my new house.

Fanatical keep doing bundles with one or two games I want in them for less than the price of the actual games I want and it feels wasteful but I guess someone is getting paid right? right???

Plenty of places to trade codes… so who knows.

Next biggish Steam sale starts tomorrow (October 25th).

Saturnalia, a game of some interest to a few of us I think, will be free on the Epic Store starting this coming Thursday.

i’ve played this game for around a couple hours for festival jurying and liked it. some people here were saying they were turned off by the procedural elements. and i think if you went in expecting a classic horror game experience with a linear story you’ll be disappointed. tho SIGNALIS which is another game coming soon seems to do a pretty good job of emulating classic Resident Evil. but i thought Saturnalia was its own cool kind of experience from what i played. there was an interesting sort of desolate experience to it that’s hard to convey. i’m not sure how different the game will be 1 year later but… esp if people are just getting it for free from the Epic store it’s worth checking out.

It is the OCTOBER SPOOKY SALE before the big NOVEMBER sale though, so more price variation and titles on sale than there will be between NOV and DEC, just FYI.
