Destiny Come On Already

obviously sonford and i will be playing beta (july 18!)

this game already seems disappointingly empty of surprises and i’m fuckin hype as hell anyways

I’m always hype for more bungie gun goodfeels with friends.

yeah, when i helped sakurina do that thing for his book with goon the other day i actually had a real good time. i forgot how good it feels to play destiny, especially with other people, and at least that won’t change.

yeah destiny is hometown

the other day i went around in one-man private matches collecting the hidden crucible ghosts to get a grimoire score high enough to get a special emblem in d2.

halfway through i learned the optimal time to press my screenshot button to get my gun out of the frame, just in time for the edz maps.

i guess this was a nice farewell to destiny 1 in a way, it’s very peaceful exploring these dead, quiet spaces free of conflict.

good lord these skyboxes

I really want Destiny 2 to have the Halo 3 (and after that) replays, just to make sweet screenshots.

apparently some activities are going to have a ‘loadout lock’

So… it’s the reveal event demo for a third time?

once a demo for the influencers, now a demo for all

“hey, what are some ways we can decrease our weapon variety even more?”

(sorry i’ve been pretty down on d2)

it’s interesting that whole video basically reads as: “activision wants us to have bigger numbers so we designed our game to chase a wider audience”

i feel like it’s not going to succeed in doing that, and it’s not even really going to be their fault. as much as I enjoyed destiny a lot of friends/acquaintances I talk to still feel pretty burned by D1, they dropped it hot before the dark below and that’s what their impression of this game is. saying “we added a story” is not going to woo those people.

can honestly say i’ve never thought “this game would be better if i couldn’t change weapons here”

Halo never forced you to use a particular weapon (beyond spawning you with it), but you would have encounters designed around “here, take this, have fun.” e.g., a sniper level, a level with shotguns and zombies, a vehicle level. Destiny does this with the sword and scorch cannon some, and I’m interested to see if they can make a level like Truth and Reconciliation or The Ark again. The default mode for Halo was, like Destiny, a mix of short- and long-range enemies to keep you switching between precision and near-DPS weapons, but the weapon-specific sandboxes were great for pacing, as were vehicle levels.

i was feeling negative about destiny but you just reminded me of the bit in wrath of the machine where six of you throw bombs at this dude over and over until he runs away

Yeah! More like that.

Mission-specific loadouts could also give people a taste of a gun they have to earn through esoteric means, or lower the barrier to entry/frustration that comes when you’re LFG and a certain kit is required.

except now we’re stuck with two short/mid range weapons, and maybe a third weapon that’s long range but we’ll rarely get ammo for.

i really hope this ends up working out

there’s a lot of this kind of ‘take this, have fun’ encounter design in d1 raids
wrath of the machine does a lot of fun stuff with the bombs and scorch cannon, king’s fall has a couple of encounters built around a raid exotic you’d never use anywhere else, vault has the shield that… doesn’t show up anywhere else in the game if i remember correctly etc.
