ok so, post-beating-the-game thoughts (spoilers, of course):

i’d been drinking a bit of bourbon while finishing off this game yesterday and now i’m trying to piece together some things that feel unclear.

  1. is BB Sam? no, right? but also…yes? Unger seems to recognize Sam as his son but so far, time travel has played no part in the game?

  2. Bridget isn’t Sam’s mother, right? Because she can’t have kids? Or did she have some kids, but not Amelie…

  3. …who may or may not be a real person? but does exist because she’s the EE? is she a manifestation of Bridget? and why was Bridget on the beach with Die-Hardman since she was already long dead? an illusion of Amelie’s?

From what I got

Sam is Unger’s BB, but not BB28/Lou. I don’t know if Sam time travelled or just was living in his memories; that part was a little strange and remains unexplained as far as I have gotten in the post game. Amelie is the soul (ka, I think?) of Bridget, basically, and only exists in the Beach. I think Beach Bridget is an illusion created by Amelie, yeah. Bridget and Amelie are two halves of the EE.

yes, bridget existed on the beach and in the real world at the same time, but only the real world version of her aged, and she had the ability to manifest the beach version of herself in the real world so she eventually started doing that and presented her younger-appearance-self to the real world as amelie, her daughter. she isn’t sam’s biological mother-- she busted BB sam out of his pod and raised him as her own

yeah i guess sam seeing his memories is weird. maybe he’s just sort of jacked up because he used to be a bb and maybe jacking into any bb would trigger the flashbacks?

Building off what I said in GYPT, weird as heck Kojima has a thing for double aging a female character. In Policenauts you meet your ex-wife who immediately dies and then meet her daughter who looks exactly like your wife did 25 years ago and is the same age as when you got frozen in space.

I replayed the beginning and they immediately drop that Contract subplot. Also didn’t out it together that Sam caused Central Knot City’s voidout. Or at least was at ground zero for it. I still don’t understand how voicouts happen. A BT merges with live human? But and also for Sam he just plops back into our reality full whole?

Was also looking at that opening area and it is really cool and you do not go back there.

yeah, the voidout thing is a little iffy to me. it seems like if a body doesn’t get incinerated quickly, it becomes a BT, which then causes a voidout if the BT consumes everything around itself?

but then in that opening scene, why does that one porter attempt to kill himself after killing the other transporter? suicide doesn’t seem to have an impact on whether or not a person becomes a BT/voidout, so wouldn’t killing themselves be pointless? is it just to avoid what is maybe a more painful death?

Also Lisa was Sam’s Mom? And also a Lisa that he got pregnant and she died and that caused a voidout???

Sam got Louisa pregnant, not Lisa. Lisa is his mom.

It would prevent a void out for at least 48 hours. Because voidouts only happen when a living thing is eaten by BTs

Sam can just come back after being dead, but it was still the ā€˜living and the dead’ mixing like ā€˜matter and anti matter’ and causing a voidout.

Took me more than 40 hours but I’m definitely at this point now

I’m still deciding whether to do a Felix on this one, which is to say, buy and play the game

I think my final clock time was like 35 hours, and I didn’t feel like I sped through things really.
