so i was thinking about how little dogs i killed on my first playthrough of stalker, and how WHENEVER I WATCH PEOPLE PLAY they kill fucking dogs left right and center non stop just wasting all their bullets on dogs that are WAY LESS AGGRESSIVE than people give them credit for
if you slowly walk up to any dog thats doing something, so it cant be sleeping or sitting it has to be like barking or eating or dragging, if you walk up slowly to it in like the same place youd be in a cars blind spot you can basically get up close enough that youd be able to TOUCH it without getting attacked, like thats how much you can push being around them when they’re not being led by a pseudodog. pseudodogs with dog packs make them incredibly aggressive but if you shoot the pseudodog they all scatter, so thats another dog murder avoidant mechanic. also just WALKING AROUND their territory makes them not attack you. like a dog barkign or howling doesnt mean you’re gonna get bit it just means they’re nearby
the ONLY time i killed dogs was when i took a shitty quest to ‘clear out a den’ for TOURISTS in the zone, when i killed a dog lair for duty, and when i had to defend a burnt out husk house with fox. so i can just, not take the two dog killing sidequests and run laps around fox shooting dogs and then pet all their corpses and apologize. like its kind of a cop out but i cant ADVANCE THE GAME unless i help fox so making him shoot all teh dogs refusing and then RPing a funeral will be how i make up for it
basically a zero dogs killed run is possible and then i can officially look down on every single person who tries to shoot a dog in this game. also its a fun challenge
another challenge i thought of was FULL FREEDOM where you dont kill any dogs and you kill every duty guy you see. it’d make the bar crazy! im kinda curious about that too
i havent thought of doing challenge runs in games since like mario 3 and space harrier i feel like a kid at the candy store right now

the AI in new arsenal 7 is so fucking bugged out, when I rescued fox from the dogs he had to meticulously clear their bodies out of the room so he would feel comfy by the campfire
and then i got chased by dogs for like a mile to the rookie village, where sid’s cats started fighting them, which drew in wild boars that killed me and like three other people and then everyone started rushing over to our corpses to loot us and a cat started eating me. life goes on

I haven’t had to kill a single dog yet even in na7 where they’re absolutely more aggressive, I let fox take care of them himself and later on you can learn to tame mutants so you don’t have to kill any animals at all when you’re traveling by putting their parts on your belt which is just fucking fantastic, it works on shit like controllers and psuedogiants too lol. A minimal kill run of everything but humans is very possible in most stalkers based on the original anyway, because animals are very easy to scare off/respect and you only need to kill mutants that directly attack you like snorks and bloodsuckers. I think it’s interesting that the morality of russian mods more often centers on the priceless value of some human life when there is such a strong system already in the game you could use to punish the player for failing to respect his environment with animal behavior and their lack of real aggression unless provoked.
Dog packs should fucking hunter killer your ass for being a psycho and brutalizing them for no reason, you shouldn’t be able to sleep outside anymore without dogs attacking you, etc, and then you’d have to make offerings to them if you want them to leave you alone again and help them out by accepting their psychic dog missions to escort dogs through anomalies or recover a old dogs body before a stalker can cut it up or something, and also they should command you to murder duty squads in revenge lol. I told daphny about the dog faction from the design doc and they talk about it constantly and you know what it really is the thing people have failed to implement in this game above all else

A stalker game where you get like rescued by the blind dogs and become the avatar of their vengeance on the c-consciousness and humankind that plays like Shadow of Chornobyl would actually be the sequel I want and deserve. Like imagine a stalker game where you’re talking to controllers and bloodsuckers and shit telepathically instead of people and you only feel safe around mutant enclaves, it’s completely the opposite, it would rule so fucking hard. Every campfire would be an imperial outpost instead of an oasis of safety. Actually fuck it lol let me play as a controller and make people suicide and walk off bridges and shit instead of using guns at all. I want to go into an abstract pocket dimension version of the map I’m on by doing psychic probing on zombified stalkers to cure their malaise like cryostasis

I hate that every game I like a lot I end up inventing amazing sequel ideas that everyone else who likes the game thinks are dumb as fuck because they want it to be tarkov or some AAA slop, god damn these motherfuckers who play stalker, at least daphny likes this game for slavic reasons, I think I would cry if they liked this game like a dumb western gamer and just wanted to play gamma or whatever. I literally can only play schizo russian mods because the dreamlike narrative quality of them is immensely appealing to me and I’m unable to get it from any other game, this game has become a disease of my mind and soul, I’ll be playing it until I fucking rot in the ground

i also love that im infecting everyones brain with ‘you dont have to kill the dogs’ because like i said before LITERALLY NO ONE has thought to maybe just back off the fucking dogs a little bit. and yeah, i cant stop thinking about the dog faction that almost got implemented into the game, veronica touched on some of the stuff i was talking about with her but i really think a lot of the story is about man fucking with nature and fucking up the balance of the world and potentially killing everyone, you know, just like real life. or at least thats the part of the story thats resonating with me, also that everyone lies to you for their own gain, but to a lesser extent because nature RULES okay
like inverting the missions where you have to clear out mutants for tourists and makign them so you have to kill littering tourists for dogs. picking up trash that people leave around so the dogs territory isnt fucked up. escorting dogs through dangerous areas like the miltary checkpoint or the fucking bar. like imagine that whole area in front of the bar but from the dogs point of view. maybe on the other side of the barrier is the rest of their pack and dutys actually just keeping them all seperated. that they’ve been trying to organize a way to get past the bar and thats why they’re always aggressively attacking the checkpoint
at the end of hte game you can have a bunch of dogs that you mounted gauss rifles on after scavenging them from monolith so the dogs can actually shoot back at the worst death cultists in the game
i think a lot how a story about how the dogs were actually hte first failed monolith experiment. like at first ecology thought that they could control the dogs to control the zone but animals bind to the earth wont let them betray it. like it just drove dogs completely insane and useless to be pulled between man, which they thought was their best friend, and mother earth (im being cheesy becuase we’re talking about a videogame okay) which is why the ecologists had to enslave man whos devotion to the planet has already been diminished through evolution and technology, and so the dogs inherently know the horrors they’re being put through which motivates them harder to stop ecology
theres so many machines that hint at insane vivisection, imagine sitting around a campfire of dogs and having them psychically telling stories of imprisonment, further motivating you to stop mans goals for the zone. itd be cool
