i hated stalker anomaly so much i got a popular modpack that makes it like, ya know, more like a stalker game, but i had to customize it extensively (why are people obsessed with adding shaders to games that make them run like shit?) and the guy who makes it is such a chauvinistic prick about slavs (he thinks his mod is the best one ever despite joining the community in 2020 and that russian mods suck despite HIS MOD BEING A FORK OF A RUSSIAN MOD BUILT ON DECADES OF WORK BY EASTERN EUROPEAN MODDERS) so i said fuck it. Its not his mod pack anymore. Its mine. And in mine we have FUN and the bandit enemies are named shit like âBoogerâ and âTerrorâ like theyre 80s movie bullies.
ok so i downloaded the sdk specifically just so i could make it play the prisoner theme 24/7 on the main menu. it is complete. now i can play the game again
in the stalker mod im playing im getting paid to help clear the assholes out of the swamp and the faction leader told me hes sending me to help THE BEST SQUAD they have to take the machine yard, and its like an all time great list of NPC names

one of the most popular choices for western STALKER players is âanomalyâ which is this totally overdesigned standalone thing where you can start as any of the factions and run around the zone in freeroam. its very clearly inspired by shit like MISERY so you have to worry about things like having matches to light your cigarettes and theres a million junk items from like a cum-encrusted russian playboy that talks about how sexy russian girls are to broken headlamps and literal garbage. also for whatever reason a common feature of western mods is making it so the NPCs talk as little as possible because campfire talk is âannoying chatterâ which probably is what pisses me off more than anything else. its literally just because they cant understand what the guys are saying, so now when npcs do talk they tell stories and jokes out of order and its very annoying even as someone who doesnt usually know what theyre talking about either! its like playing gothic w english dub instead of russian polish or germanâŚyour just missing something. its important texture!!!
anyway my favorite feature is that the balance between food/drink/drugs is operating on redneck rampage principles so you can snort cocaine to make yourself instantly sober after drinking tons of vodka, or how you cant like use any healing items without eating or drinking, which then usually makes you need to do the other. on the plus side you can smoke weed and it makes you more resistant to being psychically attacked

the first one saved all the numbers for all the monolith at the end and here its like kill 16 poorly armed guys at the pump station while these friendly stalkers awkwardly bump into each other and do stop start movement on their way to a Battle. pistols no longer have iron sights as well which I completely forgot about, all the guns feel like theyâve had their range chopped in half and have insane spread. nobody has any fucking real jobs to do, itâs all just the faction war shit. i havenât played this game in like 10 years and thereâs barely any mods for it that arenât reborn: tom berengers faces of death feat arachnophobia. game sucks ass
I remember accuracy being extremely variable in Clear Sky, but from both directions. You could never hit anybody and then on occasion you could get head shot and instantly killed by a random enemy. Which is cool in theory but I thought was really annoying, and stopped me from getting too far into it. I wonder if better gear and armor youâd get later would change any of this.

i had problems with both clear sky and call of pripyat. i was INCREDIBLY dissappointed actually. after i couldnt get into either i went and looked up the story and the way it completely shits and destroys EVERYTHING that happens in the first game was awful. strelok working with ecology and the feds? DUTY AND FREEDOM PUTTING ASIDE THEIR DIFFERENCES?? SCIENTISTS CONTINUING THEIR WORLD DESTROYING WORK IN THE NAME OF A NEOLIBERAL LIE?? WHAT HTE FUCK HAPPENED TO THE STORY? like even if pripyat did work (when i quick saved the game would freeze for five seconds, when i went into a safe area the game would freeze for ten seconds and the sound would stutter like a skipping cd. same when i went into the menu. considering how much all three of those things happen it was just unplayable on my pc)

like poeple have been saying they changed how all the guns feel and like halved the range of everything and the physics just feel completely different. and like every time i play a sequel to a game i feel like im transferring my skills from the first game into a new situation in the second that takes for gratned that i know what im doing. but like the way everything changed just made me feel like i was playing a stalker fan mod total conversion or something. like the final âboss fightâ is you shooting strelok in the fucking head over and over with a railgun to âdisableâ his psi helmet but like. ITS A RAILGUN so he has to have a stupid LIFE BAR. when has there ever been a LIFE BAR in stalker??

like i play a sequel and im hoping 'oh maybe there will be grafitti on the outskirts of the zonenad people with homemade prosthetics and sign of like, LIFE and LIVING and SURVIVAL and COMMUNITY (like when i heard âthis game focuses on factionsâ i thought i could help and build relationships with the ones i like but instead the game is literally like THESE GUYS HAVE MORE THAN YOU YOU GOTTA TAKE EM DOWN A PEG) in the zone but it just gets more and more miltarized, to the poitn where the main character of the third game is a fucking special ops guy. i just dont care, this isnt why i liked the first game at all
Charon, the leader of the Monolith guys in Prypiat who you might not have run into because heâs in the palace of culture west of the hotel (the place with the famous swimming pool) which iirc is optional, and he uses Scarâs Vintorez from the clear sky intro, the only person in Shadow of Chornobyl to use this weapon no less. So thereâs another really cool connection to the first game they could have done something with that doesnât actually go anywhere.
i never played clear skies, but i bounced off Call after i got through the first area. my problem is that there was no mystery to the world⌠instead of feeling like a broken, lived-in world, Call felt like a videogame, designed to be a play area. I mean it was definitely more polished and stuff but⌠the lack of polish is what made stalker stalker
i definitely agree about how both the sequels feel like videogamey playgrounds more than a scary unwelcoming hellscape. it just bummed me out that everything i liked about the game seemed to not be the priority of the dev team

Do you like having a cute wife who bullies you and calls you rabbit as a nickname because the sequels rate big time on that, I personally think thatâs what having a wife is about in many ways so theyâre cool to me. They really like encouraging you to not kill people with the insanely cool guns they give you but whenever the fascists appear itâs always gloves off so itâs not all bad imo, nothing better than fucking pumping up your air rifle to put a ball bearing through some nazi skulls. Theyâve really grown on me over the years, I had an extremely negative impression of metro for a long time because the first game made me throw up from motion sickness and then my mom called me a pussy over it repeatedly. I didnât play much exodus because it ran kinda shitty on PS4 despite looking amazing. I also recommend you play all the games in ranger mode without the hud, the diegetic ui stuff is great and stuff in 2033 like you needing to identify what throwing item you have equipped by the equip sound is so fucking good
Iâve wanted to give Exodus another shot after being made kind of uncomfortable by how many scenes there are with your perfect wife and best best friends praising you. But I can get over that. Itâs funny how weird all that made me feel, in hindsight.
