wow. i’m surprised they didn’t get you-know-who to do the musical intro lol. i guess the tone would’ve been wrong.
Hi thread I never read you and enjoyed reading you.
Obviously as I seek out more and more profane PS2 games I’ve never played this exact calibur of “eh.” Appeals greatly. It’s a good grade of game that often has appealing qualities. Why does Chaos Legion have level intros like Soul Calibur?
I got Chaos Legion and Bujingai for 100 yen each from junk bins. This causes my brain to want to finish them, despite my ps2 having a FreeMcBoot and access to any PS2 that would be a better use of time than finishing these. It also makes me want to get rid of them, but holding delicious trash PS2 games feels powerful.
bujingai is legit and, by my memory, pretty easy to finish – it has a great final boss stage which is worth seeing imo.
i wonder if i would like chaos legion more or less now upon a distant future revisit.
Reading all these posts about Wanted: Dead and feeling gobsmacked until I realized you weren’t all talking about NeverDead.
wanted dead selling itself with a tampopo reference is probably still one of the most powerful things a game has done in the past decade
wanted dead is easily the best game thats come out in the past decade too. it is certainly one of the ones i think about most often and greatly enjoyed playing. i haven’t finished a game in a single sitting like that since control lol which was already one of the few games ive felt compelled to play through all at once. as much as i like the remedy boys i still gotta give it to wanted dead here though because the immense novelty in every single level was totally unmatched by anything ive played before or since. the most annoying thing in the game to me was the 30 second loop of music in the comically lengthy final level but it felt like an amazing parody of shitty Xbox games so I ended up laughing my ass off the whole time
is that where the ramen narration comes from? went totally over my head. i thought it was just an inspired piece of inanity.
despite it having come up a couple times in this thread (apparenty – i had to check) i mustn’t have given it much of a serious look: wow. powerfully stupid. unreal engine 3 can produce mind-boggling effects etc. i should give it a go– why is it full price on ebay i hate gamers.
tampopo is definitley inspired inanity! highly recommended
Good News thread: Mindjack launches in Xenia. Bad News: it crashes constantly.
That first level though. WOW. One of the best airports I’ve seen in video gaming. I can think of two others off-hand on the PS360. It was a good generation, for immense violence in Airports. It is definitely trash-action. The shooting is not good, at all. I wanted to play more just to see the environments. Oh well! Should I buy a real copy of just wait for xenia canary to one day mysteriously update. Maybe then it will finally keep my Ninja Blade save it keeps deleting. I’ve played through multiple games in Xenia but it just refuses to not delete my Ninja Blade save.
Mindjack is definitely the best Feel Plus game I’ve played.
What do you mean FeelPlus made Extreme Downhill for Arcades now I am a lier.
the Sammy game?
Japanese wikipedia says they developed it!
wow i hated the last 2 stages of Bujingai. I got lucky on the last boss and stun locked him after 15 or so tries. Wouldn’t be a real video game if it hadn’t been uneven. It did take me till the last real stage to go Taito…oh Zuntata.
ok i beat gunvalk today. what a bizarre object. took me watching the attract mode to realise how it wanted me to play (that and reading the manual very carefully to understand how they were even doing what i was seeing).
the reliance on L3 and R3 for dodging, quick-turning, and the “GV Napalm” (the “get off me” move which doubles as omni-directional air dash halfway through the game) strikes me as extraordinarily short-sighted. it’s so bad on the hands and the rate of input is crazy high. it’s better than over-reliance on triggers or bumpers (evil) but it’s still not great.
that aside i have a hard time being too critical of a 6 hour game that looks and plays like this. when it works, the tank controls + lock-on + quick-turns feel really cool. and the bosses in particular, even though they are often kinda bullshit, are also definitely the most fun encounters.
i’d never heard of smilebit before playing this, and i haven’t played any of their other stuff – they’re a weird studio! jet set radio future and panzer dragoon orta and a million bunked out sports games? really strange. kinda disappointing that this is the only likely trash action contender in their line-up. oh well.
anyway yeah it rules. i still think playing naglfar’s pit 1 without knowing how to do all the aerial stuff and slowly, painfully making my way all the way to the top, then having to sight-read the boss that i found up there, basically cemented this one for me. really excellent.
i’m gonna play otogi next. >:)
Halley’s comet has to be one of the more underutilised plot devices out there
had the unexpected privilege of being able to play whatever i liked on this hilarious object. so, naturally…
naturally you switched to Galleon, right?
actually enclave was next on the list lol
