??? huhhhh??? ? ? ?

Combat improvements:

  • Skill Tree rework: The Skill Tree has been expanded, adding several new skills, and modifying some of the existing ones. (Players will need to re-distribute the skill points on any previously started playthroughs.)

  • Melee and ranged weapon rebalancing has been introduced.

  • Weapons no longer become invisible after releasing the chainsaw during the handgun attack animation.

Updated Skills:

  • Sliding Attack: This attack can now knock a shield out of an opponent’s hand.

  • Severed Limb Finishing Strike: Leg finisher and arm finisher combined in one skill.

  • Finishers: Grants adrenaline gauge, around the same as normal kill.

  • Bullet Time Aim: Duration increased, only enemies are slowed down.

  • Grenade\Incendiary Grenade: A quick button press now tosses grenades closer to the players allowing usage in melee (toss grenade, roll back etc.)

  • Extended dodge and combo: Can be initiated after being unlocked from the beginning of the game and doesn’t show in the skill tree.

  • Extended dodge i-frames (x3) unlocked from the beginning of the game and doesn’t show in the skill tree.

  • Extended parry window (x2) unlocked from the beginning of the game and doesn’t show in the skill tree.

  • Charge Attack: Can now flinch\disrupt enemies canceling their attacks\getting thru super armor.

Cutting limbs and stunning enemies with headshots (works better with improvement skills described below) and then using finishers will give players adrenaline.

New Skills:

  • Sliding Shot: Players can shoot a handgun while sliding multiple times.

  • Adrenaline Rush: After using Bullet Time players will automatically activate slow-mo mode for 10 seconds. Receiving damage during this time will decrease duration instead of HP.

  • Dismemberment Up: During Adrenaline Rush, dismemberment with melee attacks increased by 30%.

  • Stun Up: During Adrenaline Rush, Katana and Handgun stun increased by 50%.

  • Damage Reduction Up: During Adrenaline Rush all incoming damage is reduced by 50%.

  • Limb Shooter: Shooting at enemy limbs with primary or secondary weapons has a chance to cut them off.

  • This skill synergises with “Severed Limb Finishing Strike.”

  • Concussion: Headshots stun increased by 50%.

  • With this skill there is a possibility to stun an enemy instead of killing it thus gaining opportunity for a finisher.

  • Improved Limb Shooter: During Bullet Time Aim dismemberment chance with ranged attacks increased by 30%.

  • Improved Concussion: During Bullet Time Aim Headshots stun increased by additional 50%.

During Adrenaline Rush mode players can attack additional enemies before using finishers to set up multi-finishers and regain a good chunk of adrenaline.

Melee balance changes:

  • Y-X-X-X-X: Additional 20% stun for every katana move (Handgun only had +5% from ranged weapons balance).

  • Y-X-Y-X-X-X: Additional 20% damage for 3 moves (Handgun has +5% stun from ranged weapons balance and one attack had +20% stun from combo buff above).

Ranged weapons balance changes:

  • Handgun stun chance increased by 2x (From 5% to 10%).

  • Gunsmith Rifle base damage now correctly applies 133% damage bonus (from 60 to 79.8 damage).

  • LMG Hellhound damage increased by 70% (from 70 to 120).

  • SMG Hyena base damage increased by 20% (from 54 to 65) and stun value increased by 4x (From 5% to 20%).

  • SMG Avenger base damage increased by 42% (from 42 to 60) and stun value increased by 3x (From 5% to 15%).

oh ok so not really “redoing” it, just fiddling.
i played through levels one and two since yesterday and this game still owns, but it’s defs not as hard as it was. or i’ve kept more muscle memory than i thought i had. game rules tho, nonetheless. i totally forgot about the anime cutscenes randomly dropped throughout, and the whiplash of the minigame introductions.
love to learn about the history of ramen.

well they redid the skill tree so i misremembered it in my weed addled brain

the cutscene where it flashes back to 2004 and is animated like 2004 anime is one of the best videogame cutscenes ever

Some car reviewer said “it would be better if it was worse” about a car that’s too refined and I thought of this thread.

i havent played this but i DO think there’s something incredibly compelling at the least in how this transmutes the iconography of both this walter hill film and this genre of twisted 80s cop action movie (this is ofc one of the most oddly homoerotic videogames i’ve seen) in general into a strange evolutionary branch of gaming that i don’t really know much about, which would be like european computer scrolling action games? like why is all the action in a cinemascope frame… are these armed nurses with arnold’s physique also in the movie? the jim belushi mission briefing graphics are like proto-Weird Internet Comedy aesthetics. i don’t even think i know how to get like desktop computer emulation going…

before we had fully motion and facial captured performances in videogames from keanu reeves and mads mikkelsen we had dozens of licensed shit-games with arnold schwarzenegger sprites…

i don’t think red heat is emblematic of a weird regional subgenre, it’s pretty much on its own as far as i know. i think it’s a really interesting way to make such a detailed movie-looking action game on a 16-bit system.

i also haven’t played it, though contemporary reviews seem to be universally negative

Oh I know at least two similar games!!

The JoJo super famicom RPG has the same framing

And Arrest of a stone buddha has similar fighting. It could frankly be cinemascope if it wasn’t going for Herzog-like shot composition

Mechanically the game seems identical to Kung Fu Master. The higher definition graphics and smaller possibility space in the playfield is what makes it look odd (much like many modern games in that regard).

EDF team with something new

the headlines are slightly misleading: this is yukes, the edf world brothers (and more famously wwe smackdown and evil zone) team, not sandlot, the main edf team

I’ve played every edf game (even monster attack!) but never bothered with world brothers, is it any good/different?

structurally, it’s the same: every stage puts you on a map, and you gave to kill waves of giant enemies, plus you gradually make progress with regards to your max hp and weaponry.

however, instead of constantly unlocking tons and tons of weapons, you’re unlocking tons and tons of characters. every playable character from every previous edf game is in there (even the western-developed ones), plus there’s a load of g gundam-esque national stereotype characters, each with their own weapons and special attacks.

thje world being made of cubes makes destroying everything very satisfying, and everything also looks incredibly cute.

if you’ve already played a lot of edf, i’d say it’s worth getting on sale. or if you want to play co-op with someone who’s put off by the psuedo-realistic sci-fi military theme of the main series
