After Velma and Be Cool, they had no other means to reinvent Scooby Doo, short of the Josie and the Pussycats IN SPACE route. At this point, Warner should just do an (official) abridged take on the formula, because those direct to video / stream movies have been playing the formula straight for years. Yes, including their crossover movies. Scooby Doo is like Lupin III, Batman, and TMNT, it works well for both serious stories and silly shit, but Velma was so unfun, that it made no Scooby fan happy. Be Cool looked so visually unappealing, that their writing and jokes could not save it from being average. If artists are going to commit to a Scooby Doo project, make it look visually appealing and write the story and cast fun to watch. Don’t just lazy the fuck out of an idea, because you already had plenty of Scooby stories when the creative staff and the voice actors go through the motions for the paycheck. It does not have to be ultra weird like their Tom and Jerry movies, but you have to give enough of a shit. You can’t have contempt for your fans just because you felt that you are well above the concept of a talking dog for mystery solving where it is usually the greedy and/or rich fuckers doing cons or an ancient monster with no agenda or motivation other than being wicked
Thank you Trigger for taking my brain back 10+ years to enjoy color and crass humor again. A delightful assault on good taste. I can’t wait for them to ruin Christmas again with another cliff hanger.
First episode was a little whelming. Felt a little like just going through the motions but definitely towing the line to set expectations. Not much in the way of any gut busting laughs for me but I do look forward to new antics. I was hoping for a whole suite of new music but only a remix on Fly Away stood out so also hoping for some surprises in the music department.
it got me pretty good how well they mimicked the circular eva self-talk
Never go full John K.
I wish more anime were not afraid to go full cartoony look. We have many cartoons trying to look like anime in a shallow way, so few that understand what makes anime popular is not the way it looks, but their ambitious story telling and genre diversity. Not every anime that embraces cartoony looks knows what makes cartoons tick, but most of them do know how to make it work. I like how the flat colours in City makes it look like they are inside Miffy books.
Yeah, no, I see it. There’s some good ideas here and I can’t quite think of anything exactly like this. And except for the “It’s just like avatar” line it seemed like it had some actual ideas for jokes with the premise.
Yeah! It also just looks… very cute visually. I think it is a great irony that the moment cgi movies actually start to have some unique visual style and the ability to do some of the same stuff that makes hand drawn cartoons fun to look at is also when the writing for this kind of crap is at its absolute nadir. like that shrek spinoff looked incredible but also like it is probably the most boring movie ever made (i didn’t see it).
this looks like it could be a good exception!
Puss in Boots’ Bogus Journey was pretty good actually, certainly a thousand times less boring than any of the actual Shrek movies
Good as in tolerable for your kids to drag you to or good as in worth watching even for childless adults
i just dropped in to post this. what the fuck. i can’t believe he’s been wanting to make this since like 2009. Genndy what the fuck
like this isn’t just a bad trailer this looks repulsive
also of course a lot of idiots online are going “gwohoho the furries wanted this” no we fucking didnt
We could have had a Genndy Popeye movie, but nooooooo.
I can understand genndy not believing anyone who told him this was a bad idea because people’ve second guessed him his entire career but damn genndy this is the one time you should’ve second guessed your generally good instincts
uh like somewhere halfway between those
That’s actually pretty impressive these days
