I’ve never seen a Shrek movie and I’ve been trying to figure out what they’re about using only extremely ineffective methods (asking my wife questions about Shrek
Me: does Shrek lay eggs?
Her: no he impregnates his wife
She also speculated that Shrek 5 may be about Shrek’s grandchildren going to college
The first episode of Fate/strange Fake really leans into the fresh setting
One of the seven mages this time round is a corrupt city police chief
I was super down on it for a while there, but ultimately Dragon Ball Daima wound up being pretty great. Love that the big winner of the series winds up being the extremely lovable dork that is Majin Kuu, and while it’s a huge plot hole for, y’know, the entire series that canonically follows this one, it’s kinda rad that one of Toriyama’s last acts with the series was to make Super Saiyan 4 canon.
Fun show, just bummer that it’s over. I don’t have much faith in the dude that took the helm with Super to capture the goofy original Dragon Ball vibe this outing had.
This is that Tom Cruise movie?
Different adaption of the same source material, I’m pretty sure.
Saw Day the Earth Blew up this morning. Class act of a cartoon movie. A joy to watch. Not quite as sharp or as biting as a classic short but full of love for classic gags and beats. This should’ve been a banger for the family film market. Everyone on Twitter reporting empty theaters but mine had a few families and other cartoon enjoyers.
An adult animated comedy that does not look like Family Guy and/or Rick & Morty, with black people, and good jokes? Fucking finally. Compared this one to how an Everybody Hates Chris animated reboot looked like. That one also had good jokes (similar to its live action show), but I could not stand its “looks like Family Guy and/or Rick & Morty,” character design. Did you also know Terry Crews is a minor celebrity in Brasil? The Brazilian dub for White Chicks (Blanquinhas) and Everybody Hates Chris (Todo Mundo Odeia o Chris) made him an '00s idol there.
What if Lord of the Flies took place on an island with mutants and a mad scientist ruling over it, and then six nerdy and over achieving middle school kids were stuck in the middle (no pun intended) for three months? It is a very chaotic show where the core group are not goody two shoes, edgy, or cool (relatively, some fans think characters like Francis are cool, but not in the hip or marketing way), just regular middle school who got each other’s back despite their differences.
The show feels like it has genuine camaraderie to it, but it is not afraid of having the characters fight or have conflicts from time to time. There are episodes where one or more kids are gone from the narrative / storyline, so it is not like Steven Universe, where you need a main character present, even when the plot did not need them there, or Phineas & Ferb, where they needed every single main character to play a role in any given episode.
Still looking forward to this one hitting Disney+, because they don’t region lock dubs like Netflix does, and I can stop seeing this on rips, with access to both the Brazilian and European Portuguese dub. I have only viewed my episodes in English, the voices are good, Lorraine Toussaint does her best as a mad scientist coming from Trinidad and Tobago. I enjoyed how Francis interacts with the main cast without them excluding her and making fun of her for being different.
This is Disney and a cartoon sitcom, I doubt it well get confirmed or shown that she might be neurodivergent, but I can relate to her, and it is good the show neither admonish nor highlight her quirks, or make her the butt of the joke for them. A farcry to how these characters used to be treated before.
I’ve enjoyed this show the few times I’ve caught an episode on TV. It’s got great jokes and sight gags on top of everything you mentioned.
And gnarly mutants who I think steal the show.
Invincible season 3 was overall quite good, though I think the last three eps were sort of just exhausting in how much suffering is heaped upon Mark.
Constantly struck by how good the voice acting is across the board, guests included.
Cecil continues to be an absolute delight to watch at work. Happy we got an entire ep of backstory for him this season.
Big sucker for the Rex Splode and Shrinking Rae romance, though what happened to Rex seemed pretty obvious after he got so much redemption time. My headcannon is that Rex is significantly different because he was shot in the head… not really sure why they didn’t bring that up ever.
Really like how much time they took this season for regular day-to-day life shit. Sorely lacking in a lot of action shows.
That Debbie’s storyline can sit beside the superhero stuff is a testiment to how well-done I found it. She is as believable a character as you’ll get in something like this. Loved her story this season.
Not as much Robot as I had hoped, but what there was was great. I could do with less Allen.
I can think of two specific episodes that kind of did not need to happen, especially that time travel one. I guess I’m good with a one-off, it’s just, there’s a lot of balls in the air. Seems wild to leave them for an ultimately pointless dark future issue.
I feel like Mark’s younger brother appropriately oscillates between cute and horrifying, as should be the case with any child with his power. Again, his character felt like he acted believably.
getter robo armageddon is SO BADASS
While I am not the biggest fan of CGI and the Pixar / Disney 3D look, even in Soul, Luca, and Turning Red. I did enjoy the whole series. It was like old era Skins, before it went to utter shite in Series 5-6. 3 of the 8 episodes are about adults in the cast, that episode with the teacher, that episode with the single mum, and that episode with the divorced dad, hit me too close home (no pun intended) for different issues. I can also relate to the episode about the little brother that some did not like much; I was the younger sibling living with a brother 9 years older, who had mostly nothing to do around me, and kept / shut me out around his friends. Their two stories dealing with anxiety and money issues are also relatable.
