How did SB feel about OK K.O.! and Bee and Puppycat? OK K.O! had the better supporting and extended cast over Steven Universe. It also had less throw away episodes, because it was grounded when needed be and funny when intended. I canât remember the BGMâs for the life of me. But I do like the BGM in Bee and Puppycat as well as its setting, cast, animation, and the stories. Both OK K.O.! and Bee and Puppycat were ultimately what I felt Steven Universe needed to do better. Both the Web and Netflix episodes were composed by Will Wiesenfeld (Baths), but with different BGMâs. This one is for the web episodes. Finding the Netflx OST as a single video has proven to be harder to do in my zone.
bounced off of both of those shows. OK K.O. seemed like a decent show that was just not for me.
Bee and Puppycat I thought was the worse of the two, just low-level irritating the entire time. Hated all the characters, found the voice acting annoying, the premise underbaked, the writing aimless and sloppy. Bee and Puppycat felt like a teenager trying too hard to seem âquirkyâ. All the worst parts of post-adventure-time cartoons rolled into one show

I know what you mean. It is one thing all three shows (and by extension any show by Adventure Time alumni) got that drives me nuts. They try too hard on anime influenced humour without taking into account a lot of Japanese humour is the result of their economic / cost saving animation (detailed back ground, but few things being moved) pacing and paper theatre storytelling.
Usually anime comedies that subvert the cliches tend to be more western delivered (Excel, Cromartie, Panty & Stocking, etc.) They canât all be like Nichijouâs anime; where they overly animate the mundane to tell the joke or make a gag. That is something the earliest anime influenced shows had to struggle with, superficial Japanese visual gags, even if it was a Japanese person doing them (Glen Murakami in og Teen Titans), a weeb (My Life Me), or failed parody (Kappa Mikey). It felt like the Japanese have a better idea in how to emulate American humour, than western animators influenced by anime do with the Japanese humour.

I think this might be because Japanese creators draw from the comedic forms seen in other local art forms like Manzai or Rakugo (btw best of Japanese series in 2021, Lifeâs Punchline), while American creators may not fully understand the roots of this humor. Trying to emulate from the branches without grasping the roots often leads to failure. And Japanese creators understanding very well of American animation humor. Iâve seen many interviews mentioning that in addition to Disney, Japanese creators are also quite familiar with the origins like Harold Lloyd and Buster Keaton.
Itâs somewhat similar to how Eastern European game developers initially referenced video games when starting out and all the early games like cheap clones, until they later learned from D&D or other RPG tabletop rules, which provided a comprehensive breakdown and understanding of game systems and they finally made their own dope games.

Iâm sitting in the parking lot while TooManyCookbooks and my sister-in-law do a wine thing at Mount Vernon. I watched the 90s dub version of Curse of the Blood Rubies and itâs pretty weird. I think some sequences are pulled directly from the anime, but everything is truncated and told differently. The 90s dub decided to rename everyone so that Goku is now Zero and Oolong is now Chester. It wasnât the worst way to kill time in a car.

Iâve watched a few episodes of Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and itâs pretty good! Though I think Iâd recommend it more for the dedicated fan whereas the recent movie just gets my general recommendation.
Splinter is practicing speaking âVerminâ (mousey squeaks) as a way around not having Jackie Chan back to do his voice, good jokes
Finished watching the second episode of Uzumaki andâŚwhat the fuck happened to the art quality and animation? Jesus. Like right off a cliff after the first episode.

I accidentally watched the first two episodes in reverse order and I did notice the difference but I did enjoy episode 2 a bit more. I think I enjoyed being more confused.

the backgrounds look great and theyâre doing similar weird color to the new urusei yatsura
missed opportunity to cast one of the half dozen anime VAs who could do both ranma voices but hey
we have a terrible soft spot for rumiko takahashi in my house, though. itâs still like that, set expectations accordingly
