i think my favorite thing about it is that it leaves the high school setting behind right from the get go, which means everyone’s mellowed out and more supportive of each other nd the divisions btwn them along rivalry or gender or school or senpai lines are mostly forgotten about. im halfway thru my rewatch right now and excited to get to hiromi’s buddhist initiation
also the episode previews are narrated by maki and i think thats cute. maki is very cool in this ova
spent an evening very stoned on the couch with friends from the other side of the world rewatching original evangelion for the first time in many years and it’s crazy that evangelion is not overrated at all and is exactly as good as its reputation. like the way people talk about it is silly and ahistorical and i like kare kano a little more and blah blah blah but fuck wow
watched five episodes of gunslinger girl. i was admittedly a bit cautious about checking the show out, as i was worried that a show based entirely around underage girls with realistic guns could possibly be the creepiest “owning the sjw’s” shit i’ve ever seen. luckily, it’s not fucked up in that way, and is instead fucked up in a way that’s interesting and tells a story of cybernetically enhanced child assassins. i guess i’ll see where the next 8 episodes go.
been wanting to check the series out for quite a long time regardless, specifically because the opening theme is a song by one of my all-time favorite bands, the delgados:
i wasn’t sure the first time i watched gunslinger girl if i even liked it, except i could never really get the show out of my head for the following weeks/months, so i kinda started convincing myself it’s incredibly good
it’s been long enough tho that i barely remember anything, i should rewatch it
tempted to watch this just to see a scriptwriter walk the thinnest line in the world between “You have to buy more licensed toys” and “You need to subscribe to Disney+”
okay I may be an idiot but wasn’t the entire point of Toy Story 4 that Woody realized he didn’t have to live in service of a child that no longer cared about him and could fuck off and live his own life instead of spiraling into suicide ideation
isn’t he literally gone and Buzz is the toy patriarch now
I downloaded the first few episodes of that “One Pace” fan re-edit of One Piece that purports to cut all filler and make the anime more watchable. This seems like the only way I could possibly watch this show (which is currently on episode 1,115). Unfortunately, the first 200-something episodes of One Pace are only available in an ugly-as-sin AI upscale form, with a terrible subtitle font that looks like it’s also gone through an AI upscale. Nooooooo! The fucking film colorization of the 21st century, what a drag.
I briefly considered the same option, but I’m happy to have the show exist as a bottomless well of adventure. I have now embraced all filler, including films. It has gone well for me, a man who is at around episode 240 after starting maybe two years ago.
it’s interesting to compare caped crusader’s “this is the 1940s but with a more inclusive society and comic book super science/magic” vs the BTAS/tim burton style “it is the present but everyone in the city has agreed on a 1940s aesthetic”.
finished rebuild 3.0 and 3.0+1.0. lots of thoughts and feelings, almost all of them good, but i must take this time to give a shoutout to the real star of the show: asuka’s wonderswan
and asuka’s perfect score in gunpey. EDIT: a testament to the movie’s quality that i didn’t notice that asuka was playing gunpey in the wrong resolution; gunpey on wonderswan is played vertically!
