according to legend, the bbc were going to dub nadia for kids tv back when it was new, but that never happened. i think, as well as giant gorg, that it’s a show that would have fit right in alongside the likes of mysterious cities of gold and ulysses 31.
a lot of people hate the lincoln island arc that comes along later on, but i thought it was a cute little adolescent romance
outside of the internet and smartphones, Astro Note may as well have fallen out of a time capsule. was honestly shocked to find out it was original and not based on some 1989 maison ikkoku cash-in manga
really wondering what the showrunner/head writer of x-men 97 did to get fired before the premiere because he is really really good at this kind of soap opera melodrama
a more terrible post: I just want to point out that the idea of Optimus and Megatron being buddies who work alongside each other before being split along ideological lines and being mortal enemies leading their respective factions is literally the backstory of Leader-1 and Cy-Kill from the Gobots cartoon and not from G1 canon
anyway I’m admitting that I’ve seen a non-zero amount of Gobots in my adult life
I cannot recommend the 2018 Go-bots comic enough. It is a magnificent, completely lunatic homage to the brand that also explores its cultural relationship to Transformers.
“Not from G1 canon” is a bit of a tricky notion, because G1 reboots are still named G1 by both Hasbro and the fandom. So Megs and Optimus being buds from before (or during) the war is G1 canon, only it’s G1 canon from the last 19 years.
I feel like I shouldn’t get sanctimonious about TF canon considering its purpose, but here I am, being an old man being angry about a serious toy franchise featuring robots trying to murder each other
