Seems like it’s getting merged with Warner animation, which probably would have been in the cards under Jason Kilar as they moved away from cable channels.
It’s hard to measure what gets lost when independent studios with unique cultures are moved together and given a single name but I wish org reorgs would consider that as real damage. Name and branding matter even to a dispersed group of hundreds of people, perhaps even moreso, as you need every bit to create a shared culture that allows for tighter, sharper work.
Witch from Mercury continues to whip ass. Anime is (problematic opinion incoming) best when it’s on a teen wavelength and there’s nothing more teenage than ‘I hate you dad!’ + dating out of spite + giant robots
I wasn’t into the first episode of Chainsaw Man and, after much reflection, I ultimately decided it’s because it’s basically a slavish panel-by-panel adaption except it doesn’t take me 25 minutes to read a chapter of manga. It’s a shounen parody! It’s funny and snappy! I don’t know why they decided to make the episode such a fucking funeral dirge.
idk, maybe I wasn’t in the mood because ‘guy giving a monologue about selling his testicle with extremely serious and sparse sound design’ sure sounds funny on paper
Time Machine Blues sucks, let’s take all the snappy pacing of the movie and the best parts of the original show before it became a chore and get rid of those so we can go over the same time paradox story you’ve seen five thousand times without any of the visual flair of Yuasa’s work. I liked Sonny Boy but this is a huge downgrade.
Never seen a gundam and kinda enjoying mercury so far but was expecting a lot more from it. Star Driver jokes are obvious but I miss that shows sense of humour.
Didn’t really have any expectations for chainsaw man despite liking the manga but was pleasantly surprised so far, like that it’s taking its time with the material which worried me after hearing the 12 episode plan but I’m looking forward to more, will even go as far as saying that (most) of the changes they’ve made are for the better but I hope they stick to all the main characters hating each other which I doubt will happen.
Mob Psycho’s still mob psycho, always wish this show had more going on and the animation borders on over compensation at times but it’s pleasant enough.
I’ve never liked anything trigger’s ever done or been involved with outside of maybe the first episode of re: cutie honey but the first three episodes of edgerunners came the closest before the larger plot kicked in and the Themes and Messages took wholesale which felt like a wash.
7 episodes into Nu: Bastard and still have no idea why THIS was the series netflix thought they should give another stab at. Want to say while Berserk’s still in vogue this was the next best thing but Miura never wrote anything like what happens with the slime in this so I’m calling desperation on that.
Spy Family’s alright but every arc needs to at least half the length, heard later volumes of the manga are even worse so might drop at some point.
Blue Lock is an ok idea but I hate soccer so that’s probably being binned, looking forward to Urusei Yatsura (which i’ll probably hate) and to your eternity (which i’ll probably love). Dropping bleach before it even starts as an act of self care.
Also the first episode of Akiba Maid Wars is fun but in a way that obviously won’t sustain its premise which is a shame.
Agreed! The first episode is very well done. I still don’t know that it’s really necessary, but so far it’s good enough to honor the original. Love the ultra-saturated colors and wild patterned action backgrounds.
some of the stretch goals seem ludicrously ambitious for the amount they’re asking, but the company’s apparently done license resuce dvds of 90s cartoons before, so at least that’s probably legit
chainsaw man is so pretty it makes witch from mercury look like level 5 crap. i guess i was just really excited about new gundams and the robots moving that i was okay ignoring the art style but like. chainsaw man looks like ghost in the shell 2. i cant look at witch from mercury with a straight face anymore hahah. ill still watch it but the character art is mehhh. theres a dude with poofy pants though!
I liked that they slapped a guy instead of a girl and it’s not about incest so far, that keeps me from rewatching Utena. I really only like the background and the hair in that show
oh also there’s not recycled footage for two minutes every episode with a song that’s funny once
chainsaw man still p good but can’t help but feel the rhythm was kinda weird in this episode. in one hand i like they are being snappy about the adaptation to keep the story fast, even if they have to cut one or two scenes. but on the other, the lack of chapter breaks made this last episode feel weirdly stuffed?
like, i guess when you change the medium it’s basically impossible to not throttle a little on the way. anyway that’s all just nitpicking because there’s a real chance we’ll see the best character next week so im v excited!
