let’s close it? not sure when it pivoted from meta to anime general but it’s a weird read from the top
I’m so irritated about the use of “adult-animated series” in these tweets
You telling me an adult animated this series?
Please use this thread as an animation general thread to avoid confusion between the two.
between gundam, pop team epic, spy x family, mob psycho, and chainsaw man, this season is so stacked i’m not gonna even have enough time to watch my usual spate of brain dead isekai
someone reminded me of south park’s “let’s fighting love” spoof and now i’m thinking about how western cartoons mocking anime never works the way they think it does because it just becomes one of the more interesting things those cartoons have actually done
either that, or the newest anime the writers are able to reference is speed racer and no-one even gets it
im watching 8 shows, which is a huge leap from my usual one
I love that they put the explosion shot from Sayonara Eri in the opening. It’s becoming a real running gag.
my fiancée and i started watching Spy x Family for the first time with the launch of the new season (which we didn’t consciously know, but i guess the ambient ads for it finally got to us). it’s very cute and charming, so much so that i don’t really mind that i can predict all of its beats and reveals. i have some expectations for how stuff will play out in the long run, but everything in between is just fun to indulge in, so it ultimately doesn’t matter.
Pop Team season 2 is mostly living up to expectations. i like that they are just playing with different variations on the medium itself rather than just scenarios. i don’t think i’ve seen anything in it yet that’s made me burst out laughing, but in general i can nod and chuckle and say, “yes. good.”
started Detective Conan as well. this is one of my fiancée’s favorite manga/anime of all time, but i also have fond memories of catching episodes at 2am or whatever on Adult Swim. this is crass, but i can’t think of a better term for a show like this other than “shows that edge the viewer infinitely.” like…will Conan be an adult again? better keep watching! i feel like Dragon Ball GT is also this, and maybe even Spy x Family in terms of “when are they gonna find out?”
there’s a detective conan spinoff this season based on the idea that the protagonist is a “culprit” that is, the mysterious unknown shadow of someone who is about to commit murder and it fully commits to the meta gotham cityish idea of detective conan living in an over the top murder hell where nobody sane wants to live and the police can never help you and terrorist attacks are always happening and everyone is pretty used to it. it’s almost like sledgehammer or something
seriously!
over the past three years i’ve only watched like, 3 shows (cartoon or otherwise). this month alone i’m following 4. add to this the fact one piece is entering a new arc and hunter x hunter is coming back. what a blessed month
Yeah, I haven’t watched more than one show a season (and sometimes no shows a season) in years, and now I’m following 3, and waiting to be able to catch up with Tatami Time Machine Blues and looking forward to new Urusei Yatsura.
Guess I should maybe check out this Spy X Family thing that everyone likes so much
new urusei yatsura!!!
pop team s2 had me cackling with the obari stuff
mob psycho iii is as sweet as ever i’m gonna have to read the manga if this season doesn’t wrap everything up
I didn’t get much out of the first ep of season 2 of PTE but ep 2 had much higher hit per sketch ratio. But it was also specifically aimed at me with Hiyama as popuko and the Obari segment further villainizing their producer.
so incredibly wack that these private equity dipshits keep stripping everything for parts
