I SAW ZOOTOPIA

HOLY SHIT

DISNEY MADE A FAMILY CARTOON ABOUT CASUAL AND INSTITUTIONALIZED RACISM (and some other stuff I won’t spoil)

WHAT THE FUCK

I’ve heard it’s weirdly, shockingly good

The indelible Richard Scarry fan in me is desperately keen on catching this flick

Oh yeah, it’s actual legit good too. Knew I forgot something. A lot of that comes down to the world being believable because it’s so rough and reflective of our own (at least of America for the past couple of years). Like, they don’t really shy away from just keeping the race and class stuff at a surface level. It went a long way for me.

I think PSO2 finally got too stupid even for me today. They’ve crossed too many anime streams: class pres thinks the protag is in love with Real PSO2 Girl and is visibly pissed about it, everyone else thinks he confessed to her, protag got attacked in the real world and powered up and also there’s a school festival coming up. All we need now is a love triangle with misunderstan- oh, wait.

At least it’ll be over soon

The one thing my mind keeps going back to is what do most of the predator animals eat? Are the vegetarians now or is it kinda like Bojack Horseman and there are some animal “people” that are ok to eat so long as they are bred to be used as food.

But yeah, the setting and world design was fantastic.

They go out of their way to specify that all of the anthros are mammalian, so I’m guessing reptiles, birds and fish are fair game

Just wanted to get out there that the scene where Nick is playing with Bellwether’s wool poof was hilarious for myself, a brown person who naturally grows a nappy-ass fro and the real-world racial background of such an act.

this is a q. for manga too

in the canon of psycho/sociopathic protagonists (china, korea, etc also work I guess), when you consider Golgo 13 and original Monkey Punch Lupin^3, are there any other “evergreen” or otherwise note-worthy recurring main characters?

I just want to call out the latest Adventure Time for being super great.

Time looping is my favorite thing.

I just saw it! The plot was really predictable in that the 3 acts couldn’t have been more obvious, but it was really well done and I was excited and surprised to see how they handled racism like that.

Thanks for posting about it, @notbov! Wouldn’t have been as interested if I hadn’t known earlier.

Oooh c’mon notbov, PSO2A is not that bad, at least it’s not boring and a guy was wearing a Sonic pijama. at least is not Divine Gate, is dumb and boring as hell, the protagonist are doing nothing and are just saying “I want to know the answer” over and over, and there’s a guy named Santa “Ally of the kids” Claus.

Rakugo is going great, I think the protagonist is gay, he’s more pained for his friend leaving and stoping doing rakugo than breaking with his girlfriend becuse of social reasons, and and inviting a guy to be his aprentice just becuse he remind him of Hatsutaro. I think I will know why this anime is named “Suicide Through Rakugo”.

how mediocre this thing looks, oh well

Phoenix Wright looks every bit as half-assed and ugly as a video game adaptation should be.

Oh wow, that’s a thing

How the (live-action) movie still not been released in the US is beyond me, since it’s actually good and has already been translated (with the localized names, no less).

yes please

Well progress report Samurai Flamenco surprised me and I’m loving the insanity that ensues. I wasn’t expecting in the slightest that superheros and supervillians are totally real would become a plot point. I’m at the part where they reveal Alien Flamenco after the prime minister tried to channel populist power into supercharging his suit. Also the first one that I’ve seen where lesbian love is right there but isn’t played for laughs or heavy fan service.

That ending will throw you for a loop.

I hope you were watching it my way and predicting what will happen next after every episode!

Kind of, like the first stretch was building up fairly predictably and then that pivot point came in (Holy shit a couple policemen died from this horrifying villain with a guillotine in his chest)! threw all that off. I was expecting them to go “ha ha, this was all just a dream of the main character but he’s learned a couple things about being a real life hero.” Nope, they kept playing it straight. Then the second pivot point hits to end the season run and I gave up on predicting how they’re going to raise the odds anymore.

Looking forward to the rest.
