I had to pause while reading this several times because it sounds brilliant and stupid
Thank you for summarizing it. I’m sure you’re summarizing only the best parts and not the other 22 minutes of anime-garbage.
What’s Active Raid about?

What’s Active Raid about?
The latest episode was proudly advertised as “the hot springs episode” by the next ep preview. I have not watched it yet even though I’ll have to because someone needs to suffer for Sega’s transgressions (the hope is that they see how many people are watching the show and dust off their PSO2 translahahahaha, who am I kidding).
Active Raid is if Patlabor was a sentai
Active Raid is a show that actively repulses me for reasons I can’t quite articulate. Everyone in this show is a jerk and/or an idiot, but it’s just not funny like it’s clearly trying to be. The comic timing is just wrong. I dunno. Nobody comes off as likably stupid, they’re just stupid.
Is someone watching Divine Gate? the show is fucking stupid, is like it’s trying to sound deep, but it’s just sound dumb
Your heart rejects wamth, because you’re afraid that once you understand kindess and comfort, you can’t help but yearn for it. (talking about warm food)
While the water may fill the holes on the road, it will never fill up of one’s heart.
It’s a melodramatic master piece, sometimes it’s funny but most of the time is just boring
This episode was the best, made from someone who loves robot, how it talks about dreams and being outdated. being a giant robots fan is hard in this age, luckily there’s a ton from before 00s. I think there wouldn’t be a better episode than this in this series, it’s ok the rest of the time.
Yeah I know what you are saying botagel, the main duo doesn’t cut it, I don’t know what’s wrong really but it’s like something is missing, it’s funnier when they are working alone.
I began watching Gundam Wing, 10 eps so far. It’s so dumb it’s funny, heero tried to kill himself like 4 times. But the antagonist are logical and good characters curiously.
Okay, y’all got me, I’ll tell you why I’m really watching Active Raid
For reals, I don’t think the show is out and out hilarious, but as I noted above, it’s got a quirky Sat AM cartoon vibe to it where it’s not taking itself too seriously in spite of the stakes (like, there was an episode about gambling but a couple of weeks ago) and that’s something I’m not seeing much from anywhere. So it’s like indirect nostalgia.
Seriously though, that ass
The part of me that wants to revisit Wing is constantly beaten by the part of me that just wants to remember the show from Lady Une throwing a guy out of a plane then shooting him in the head. And the next ep preview music.
Fucking trash ass show, can’t even give the world a trainbot
Today, cartoons have once again taught me that only narrow enjoyment of a subject can defeat narrow enjoyment of a subject. Oh, and the thief girl from the first episode who keeps popping up every episode is even in the opening now. It’s almost like the people making the show are having fun.
Heero is easily the worst character in that show
That’s a funny way of spelling Quattro, who now that I think about it with the wisdom gained in watching cartoons made to sell toys model kits as an adult, has some uncomfortable Middle East-colonialism thing going on
The local theater that does an annual Ghibli thing isn’t trotting out their ragged, one-day-from-retirement 35mm print of Castle in the Sky this year. I’m devastated and will miss that one reel where one of the sound channels drops out completely. But of course, tanuki balls movie gets to be shown on film . Rest assured, when I pay them money this weekend to see Only Yesterday, I will make it known that my analog fetishism isn’t being sated. And again for The Boy and the Beast.
In cartoons that normal people would feasibly watch, I had this running in the background one day:
Do not actually watch Believe In Santa.
Just stare at the preview frame.
Look at it.
LOOK.
And despair.
I’ve been watching Pokemon XY on Netflix and I’m debating whether I should make a new thread about it. Hell, why not.
look PSO2 The Cartoon Show
just get on with it already
you’re not fooling anyone
cut the high school bullshit and just let the world go all Maximum Overdrive and get on with with the “If you die in the game, you die for real” nonsense
the plot of the hot springs episode was “the protag is a stupid manchild and played too much PSO2 and his grades dipped and this made the class prez’s plan backfire so she made him do homework”
everyone thinks the male lead and the class prez are an item and also she’s shown crying/in red in the opening so she’s going to die or some dumb shit on top of MISUNDERSTANDING comedy
I just… I need a drink
Aldnoah Zero. It never really answers the question of why Japanese high school students in training mecha somehow outperforming full militaries of other countries in the first few episodes beyond the typical “THESE ARE THE PROTAGONISTS THEY ALWAYS PREVAIL” and that one guy who seems autistic. Also called out beat by beat the setup for the war in the first place, plus the twist AND the follow-up that’s driving another protag’s motivations. I’m wondering whether to keep at it in hopes that cool mecha design will keep me interested because the plot sure won’t.
Samurai Flamenco is doing a better job at having an interesting premise. Thanks for the recommendation, SB!
I mostly stuck around for the payoff after each battle where they were all “OH HO, this is how we defeated your seemingly invincible mech!” and I sorta wish that was esports maybe?
Today’s episode of Phantom World has put it in the “Good Cartoon” category for me. Good natured stupidity and anime fanservice are all I really need.
Symphogear 4 is now an official thing instead of Thomas Romain twittering that it will happen
I’m ready to get on this wild ride again, I want to see what stupid bullshit they pull out to fight next time (past opponents: an ancient goddess, American terrorists, another dimension, the moon, Sugita, magic)
I watched the first chunk of Gall Force (or everything pre-Earth) and that was the weirdest version of Adam and Eve I’ve ever seen. I can’t wait to watch everything else, where they find and eat the apple of knowledge and fuck everything up
Last two episodes of Gravity Falls 100% delivered. Really happy with how this ended.
Also glad they gave us the best new character of the show before it was over:
Whoops, Symphogear is actually getting a 4th and 5th season
6 seasons and a movie. Nana wills it!
(I honestly don’t think they have enough stupid to go that long, but who knows, they may find some untapped well of insanity)
If any franchise can do it, it’s probably Symphogear
Guess I should pull Season 3 out of my “saving for a rainy day” pile now.
Ehhh, GX kinda peaks midway before it falls into a hilariously convoluted plan by the antagonist for a bit, but then Ver comes back out of fucking nowhere and then you realize you’re on the wild ride again, then it just fizzles out.
Attention mahjong nerds: The first half of this week’s Osomatsu-san is about mahjong and is thick with scoring and playing terminology
It is also funny.
