Cartoons (Part 1)

,

Really appreciate how perfectly cut off the ending of this clip is.

it is very funny to me that ‘cal arts’ is used to refer to a fairly innocuous form of animation style considering how fucking weird everyone i know who went there (for programs other than animation) is

yeah, i know calarts for the experimental film programme which is so far from this style

Oh, hey, I remember this comic. I sort of read it, infrequently, back… around the time of the original Insert Credit. And before. Like, alt.fan.sonic-hedgehog times.

Makes some sense he would wind up on Adventure Time, huh.

In fact, RPG World’s hero, Hero, made a cameo in SU as an action figure (and everyone not in the know thought it was a reference to Cloud, which to be fair he is), and then got his very own OK KO episode that technically concludes RPG World’s storyline (and also features his baby daughter, who’d been introduced as an adult in one of Ian J’s zines called Beta Temple).

i never read rpg world, but i do remember it being one of the first webcomics to get a print release

I was just meaning to go back and check on that. We already had Sanic in that shot, so it seemed like a logical jump.

gal & dino is somehow continuing the adventures of the live action time travelling shouta aoi from pop team epic and this is gonna be some weird thing like gdgd fairies where there is just this weird mind bending plot put into a comedy anime that no one i know watches

Is that black lagoon?

This anime maintains being good edgy trash until it introduces the unkillable waif-ish nuns, where it falls into being too stupid to be tolerable

The OVA being about the nuns is one of the most annoying things about Black Lagoon.

we’ve been watching Violet Evergarden recently, and i really like it. i always feel out of touch about what the ‘good’ anime are though, is this something that ppl here watched?

oh sweet so just watching s1 is fine

only like the first half of s1. They introduce the nuns in the second half and they just take over the story and it sucks.

This is something I watched and particularly loved. It does harbour one particular anime story trope that, depending on your verisimilitude, could detract from the second half. At this point I just sort of expect it to happen.

I’m excited no spoilers lol. I keep waiting for it to become “problematic” beyond the ways that the story is clearly intended to be kind of uncomfortable, and it hasn’t happened quite yet.

I mean, the story of the 14 year old girl marrying a 24 year old being told as a pure romance was a bit uh off but I study the middle ages, I am able to cope

I don’t think it is problematic but more a trend in current YA anime stories. It’s like “I get it, but why have it to begin with?” The thing I’m talking about, I mean; yours is also a trend but more uncomfortable.

i mean i already watched all of s1

They’re probably confusing the maid with the nun. Though I haven’t seen the OVA I’ve read the manga, and yeah Roberta’s second appearance drags just because it takes so damned long. I think Black Lagoon works best in shorter snappier stories.
