hi

VEG is a normal safe show for normal people and its worst crimes are “people in society are kind of shitty sometimes” and “Violet is actually a superhuman killing machine”

also I think it’s the most perfect anime because it’s like pure uncut melodrama, a genre that a medium based around highly theatrical voice acting is built for

100% recommend that if you end up liking the show that you should watch the side-story movie that got added to Netflix earlier in the month

Yeah it’s really good! We just finished the whole thing, including the “special” episode which felt like chronologically it should have been after like episode 5 or so.

Mild spoilers follow

I really liked the movie, though it probably could have been a little bit more gay. It did solve my main problem with the end of the season, which was that I thought it was unnecessary for this show to conclude with more violence and action. It was still done pretty tastefully, but my number one complaint about shows that are about like a violent person learning that violence is wrong is that the climax almost always revolves around them having to then learn that violence is right… sometimes… as long as it is for Good Reasons… if only because the show needs to conclude with some kind of more kinetic spectacle.

This show goes very close to that territory but still remains thematically pretty consistent, but I found the descent into pure melodrama of the movie to be a much more fitting and satisfying end to the series than Violet temporarily becoming Batman or whatever

Part of me hopes they make a second series, part of me feels it would be fine without it.

I reaaalllly hope that the person she was visiting at the end of the last episode does not turn out to be her lost soldier boyfriend-dad

Crunchyroll has been HEAVILY promoting this anime called Dr. Stone, and its commercials for it are so over the top that they make my gf and I crack up every time. So last night we smoked a lot of weed and watched the first 3 episodes.

We were DYING. The protagonist is this horrible parody of a misanthropic middle school STEMlord. He’s best friends with his classmate who is fucking JACKED but a complete dullard. During what seems to be a normal school day, the whole world is enveloped by a magical wave of light that turns everyone on earth into stone.

Thousands of years later, the STEMlord is the first human to wake up. The stone around him cracks and he steps right on out of it and starts rebuilding civilization thanks to his improbably deep well of prepper science knowledge. Soon his himbo friend wakes up and becomes his happy simpleton servant. They quickly discover how to revive people who’ve been frozen in stone, and get to work.

STEMlord is so casually cruel to him all the time, calling him an oaf, condescending to him, asking him questions he knows he can’t answer and then smugly correcting him. And yet his friend is just LOVING it, and completely internalizes it. When they revive a third person, the himbo says to him: “I’m the one who doesn’t know how to think! I rely on brute force and diligence!”

This new guy they revive is known as the “strongest primate high schooler”. He looks like Disney’s Tarzan and he’s portrayed as this noble, nature-attuned warrior monk who is so strong that he hunts by PUNCHING ANIMALS TO DEATH. He slugs a lion so hard it goes flying into a tree and dies instantly, and then he skins it and wears its pelt!

After a brief honeymoon where they’re all happily working together, the primate high schooler reveals his revolutionary character – he despises the concept of private property, and he’s concerned that if they revive everyone indiscriminately, then capitalist rent-seeking will come back too. He decides that the best course of action is to only revive young people who haven’t had the chance to become landlords or CEOs so they can create a new utopia.

STEMlord is utterly uninterested in politics, and he wants to revive everyone solely for the sake of doing it – he sees it as a scientific problem to solve, and he’s just doing it to be able to boast about it. In order to stop the primate high schooler from interfering with his plans, he decides to skip several rungs of technology and go straight for developing a motherfucking GUN on day two of this new civilization.

Unfortunately, the show seems to think the STEMlord is the hero and the primate high schooler is the villain. Too bad!

It’s total garbage but we had a great time with it. Don’t watch it sober.

This is out now - I watched the first episode, it’s like Waking Life meets Rick and Morty basically

Take that as you will

oh PSA it is EXTREMELY not kid friendly

Thank you for reporting back about this show, i kept seeing ads that were like 5 seconds of a man exploding out of a statue and screaming and i REALLY wanted to know what it was about without watching it

Hahaha yeah, those ridiculous 5 second commercials were what compelled us to investigate. The show is exactly as extra as those clips would lead you to believe.

Oh I forgot to mention THE STEMLORD MAKES A LAB COAT OUT OF TANNED LEATHER AND SCRIBBLES E=MC² ON IT. An equation that is absolutely useless to him in his present circumstances!

I think he invents money later. Explicitly so he can restart capitalism. At least, that’s what some manga panels I saw posted seemed to imply.

he does, and reinvents boats. also he finds a village of unstoned humans who are descendants of astronauts who were on the iss when the world got stoned, one of them being stemlords papa

I got pretty into the manga but bailed out after a while.

the manga is shonen jump’s main hope for the next big thing after my hero academia ends, isn’t it?

this looks way more fun and loose than wabbit/new looney tunes which has been going on for the last 5 years or so

that yosemite sam sounds maybe the worst i ever heard although yosemite sam and foghorn leghorn are almost always the worst from a pure “imitation of mel blanc” standpoint

eric bauza remains a vocal chameleon. i would never particularly recognize him as bugs compared to any of his other voices. i only know it’s him because i am a cartoon nerd

his bugs is fine (i wonder if he is the space jam 2 bugs) but that “I AM AMUSED” hit a specific weird bugs bunny vocal tic i haven’t really heard in years

anyway i have a lot of very strong opinions on this mid budget, probably mediocre childrens cartoon about century old characters

i can’t believe we live in a cursed world where the mickey mouse cartoon has been running laps around looney tunes in both comedy and technical artistry

It does look better than I thought it would, but I have to admit I cannot handle seeing like even a glimpse of the hyper-detailed John K-style veiny muscle faces without cringing a bit, though I guess they are probably trying to imitate Tex Avery or whatever and it has nothing to do with him.

The Cal-Arts Wars have gone on too long, and ravaged our minds…

Senku doesn’t. They revive a captain to be their shipwright but he was a rich kid that hated his family’s business practices that does.

For some reason I think his Bugs sounds a lot more like Buster Bunny

Also I don’t think I liked a minute of that who knew I was such a Looney Tunes purist
