I kind of like that they have their production pipeline working at a point where they can now churn these out to such a questionable standard. their attempts to sort of treat the whole thing as meta-text are still really clumsy, as they were in FFVII-R, but on the other hand it’s not like final fantasy hasn’t historically taken its own private language for granted, and this is at least a much different kind of incoherent than eg the lightning returns era.
I don’t think I’m going to play it right now but it is fascinating

Cutscenes end mid-conversation.
It looks completely like a ps2 game on PS4.
I entered a room and it did a ps2 camera pan to show me the exit door (which was the only other door).
Playing this on Hard would only be pain. This is an action game and Kingdom Hearts ramming each other at top speed.

The point still stands that Interact isn’t the kind of thing you expect on a Select button

yeah, idk. game kinda just feels like a DMC game to me (which i guess is a PS2 game).
seeing how it’s not really super optimized for any platform, though, i imagine it might take a pretty big hit on a base PS4.
i’m only finding the bosses (and tonberries) to pose any real challenge, but i don’t feel like i can wind my way through it on autopilot, either.
i think the game is kind of unremarkable but i’m having a good time with it
