Had a weird realization today. The narratives the left has about the behavioral problems driving capitalism are about the rich. And the narratives the right has about the justifications of capitalism are about the rich. In both cases the explicandum, the thing being explained, is the rich. To the extent the poor are treated as the problem it is conceptualized entirely negatively, as a lack. Lack of initiative, lack of discipline, lack of intelligence. Things that in ontological terms canāt actually have existence. Things that, in the same way poverty is the natural state of man, are the default. Capitalist apology requires the pathologization of the default state of man, and all narratives about capitalism implicitly admit that in terms of active causes it is driven entirely one sidedly. I am not without sympathy for anti human and anti majoritarian narratives, but this is a huge unexamined part of all dominant narratives, which points to deep problems in how humans conceptualize
