be my playground rumor squad

I heard if you equip a Boomerang to B and a Bomb to A, you can press AB together to throw a Bomberang.

well, I picked up the better sword and the blue ring and beat everything up to level 5. now I’m in level 5, getting absolutely demolished by a room full of blue darknuts. ahhh

Yeah, there’s a middle string of dungeons that are pretty brutal. 5 has way too many darknuts, and 6 introduces wizzrobes. Good luck!

yeah this is getting pretty rough! i got the darknuts down (attack their sides and be nimble as heck) and beat level 5 but now I’m in level 6 and getting wrecked by blue wizzrobes.

I’ve been progressing pretty steadily since I found the second dungeon, though, so I’m happy about that! i even accidentally uncovered the 8th dungeon, so it’s nice to know where it is

You can hide in the non-bomb doorways if you want to carefully pick you way through darknut rooms. That or bait+bombs.

My dad used to stand in doorways for 2-3 minutes at a time waiting for the right time to strike a Darknut. It drove me absolutely effing nuts.

Are we related?

Might be - would not be that surprised if my dad had a second family with a second NES

Wizrobes and a few other critters in the final dungeon do NOT respect you hanging out in the doorway like the rest of the beasties in the game do. They will wreck you if you try that shit on their watch

still gettin banged up by blue wizzrobes

I heard if you type in the name, ā€œCELDAā€ as your save file, it’ll make the game go into 4bit graphics mode

you have the magic shield right?? wizzrobes are sort of impossible without it (and still very difficult with it!)

i do not have said shield. whereabouts is it located?

my older brother told me that Real Gamers don’t need the magic shield

oof yeah, no wonder you’re having trouble! it’s a normal item in a lot of shops; some shops overcharge for it, but it’s not super expensive. i think there are probably at least 5 shops that sell it. one of them is very close to the start screen (although i think that is one of the more expensive locations).

oh, and once you get it, stay the fuck away from like-likes. they steal your shield and you have to go out and buy another one. it’s a giant pain the in the ass.

I haven’t bothered with the magic shield in years, and I can usually finish the game without dying. Fighting wizrobes is all about positioning. Don’t let them approach you along a long unobstructed path, because they’ll keep shooting the whole time. Get them before or after they’re phasing through blocks and whatnot.

A lot of people seem to skip the magic book because they find the ability to rapid fire the wand more useful than the fire. That’s useful for those busy rooms too.

What I really should have said is that sword fighting is like the game of chess, you must think before you move.
