I don’t remember this game well, but…

I know the flute has more than one use, for sure…

Hmm.

Don’t be terribly afraid to try dungeons out of order. I think it’s do-able if difficult.

there’s a heart container hidden the forth bush from the right in the corridor shaped area south of lake hylia

fifth if you count the half bush on the edge of the screen

on the screen to the left, the bush where the path makes a corner hides a shop

Playing through Zelda 1 is an annual tradition for me and sometimes when I’m feeling lazy I’ll use the bait and bombs in those rooms filled with darknuts

Ghosts hold a secret way to win the game!

TAS only, mind you

still haven’t found the second dungeon…bought the bait from a secret shop (thanks @toups!) and got the info to make my way through the lost woods. found a graveyard on the other side and ended up in dungeon 6 which I would have tried to clear but it seems like I need to bring my own key to advance? i tried bombing walls and stuff to no avail. darn.

i found a secret cave in the bottom right of the map but when I went inside the dude took my money to pay for the door repair :’<

still haven’t found the second dungeon…or any others but the 6th. tough stuff! I’m getting a better handle on where everything is, though

2nd dungeon is shown in the manual i think

save scum the hell out of money making game, there’s one a couple screens from start, so it’s pretty easy. then go to the west side of the central lake and find the shop that sells the blue ring

6 is one of the hardest levels, I’d recommend not starting there. Plus you won’t get far without finishing 4 first.

In the earlier levels, you can very often use bombs to find alternative routes around locked doors, allowing you to stock pile keys for the later levels. There’s always enough keys in each level for that level’s locked doors, so don’t worry about buying them from shops.

I heard if you beat the game without dying, Zelda will take her dress off

I think the main character’s name is link not zelda. Can confirm about the dress.

There’s a secret hidden on an L-shaped island.
If only you had a way to get there.

Each dungeon map is supposed to look like an image when you fill it out.

One of the levels is a swastika because Germany and Japan were friends during World War II. This wasn’t offensive at the time, because Germany wasn’t a country back then, there were only West Germany and East Germany.

The game is best played in the original Catalan. Any other language desyncs the 10NES chip by 1/600th of a second per second for every hour you’ve played.

255 is the highest number.

You’ve got one hundred. You’ve got another hundred. Then you’ve got fifty more. Last you’ve got, what, five more after that? You can’t get any higher than that. Fahgeddabowdit.

Not to spoil the mystery, but that’s the highest value that can be stored in a byte.

Unless you can byte off more than you can chew

I knew a kid who tried to count higher than 255.

Poor guy just ended up right back at zero.
