split off the discussion where the AC6 announcement happened ahead of the release
Do I get this on PS5 and a $200 Dual Sense Pro or do I get this on my aging gaming PC and a gamepad with four back buttons? Thatâs the real question
i use the DualSense Edge every day but 200 is outrageous for what it is and what it does. the biggest draw hasnât actually materialized yet â 3rd-party hall effect sticks. and those will be another expense on top of the 200 when they do come around!
the base package has swappable sticks but the replacements have the old PS1/2/3 dualshock thumb grip texture and i donât like that grip, itâs too slippy and wears down in after a few months of heavy play to a slick sheen. they are, of course, also alps and prone to drift as are all other sony sticks at the moment.
the profile/remap/hotswap/stick response curves stuff is utterly on-point and works fabulously on the PS5 (perfect firmware integration) but also immediately raises the question: why isnât this stuff available on the base DualSense â a 70 USD pad to begin with? why canât you have savable custom remap profiles for regular DualSense pads? (to the console, even, doesnât even need to be saved âcontroller-sideâ.) itâs a cynical, cruel move to artificially increase the value of a blatantly overpriced product when thereâs nothing preventing the base models from having the same functionality. this stings so much more given sonyâs unforgivable controller DRM. you have no choice! eat our upcharge or perish! shit like this is why i stopped fucking with apple for many many years until the allure of the iphone was too great (and the irritation with android too severe). dĂ©jĂ vu all over again
the half-dome back buttons are incredible, at least. havenât seen any other pads with that design, and that design is absolutely perfect for my hands.
tl;dr sony are doing evil walled garden things, get out while you still can

Arena gameplay here (quadruple compressed video attached)
i played a couple hours of the first AC game after recently going through all the Kings Fields, and boy it controls almost exactly like Kings Field while allowing/expecting you to move & evade & shit way, way more than you ever have to in Kings Field
The very first thing you have to do before you can even open a menu to change the controls is win a timed battle against 2 enemies. who can fly around and outflank you while you use the shoulder buttons to peashoot at them with your shitty starting gun. it rules that From have always been this fucking mean at the start of their games lol
it gets very fun after you get a decent engine and boosters and can zip around more easily. the economy is rly tense for a game you can reload; ive made slow progress just because i cant take losing so much money on repairs and ammo, and reload to try the mission again. i kinda had to suck it up and accept a lower payout on a few of the nastier missions, of course realistically thats what they want from you in this gritty cyberpunk mech mercenary setting. (that said: invest in laser weapons)
reading about the zillion other Armored Core games is fun because some of them sound like expansion packs, but then you have ones where you do VR missions, or optimize the AI and make your ACs fight like BattleBots. From have also always been good at doing different things with their game systems and engines even when they reuse them game after game
It is good, but for me it is hard. It took me 7 tries to get past the tutorial level.
can you speak to how much button holding? trigger holding? toggle options? any inputs doubled up with no option to remap separately?
I havenât really internalized the controls yet. Shoulder buttons are all weapons, L3 is a kind of kamikaze boost, circle is forward or strafe ground boost, x is jump and vertical boost, triangle is interact button, option button on ps4 controller is exit tutorial window button. I donât remember what square is or what R3 is.
The only hold command is from a jump to ascend and every control is fully remappable.
excellent news, thank you both!
Aaaahhhhh⊠so thatâs the feeling that other people call âENVYâ, i see!
so i forgot to preorder this, but will try to pick it up somewhere today
what are most folks playing on? PC, iâd imagine?
will probably go with XSX because of the controller situation - anyone playing on that?
Gamesplanet has it for 53.99.
Iâm playing on PC. I think controllers are the way to go, and if you have access to a controller with backbuttons youâre probably doing it right.
Also it runs better on PC than Elden Ring (I think)
im on a series s
