PC with PS5 controller

i was mostly asking so i could play with people, but right after i posted i remembered the game has no (or versus only?) multiplayer and so it doesn’t really matter as much to me, now. Series X it will be, since i have that Elite2 controller and it feels good.

@isfet00 on Xbox for anyone who might be playing there. maybe 3v3 will be fun

game’s great but i’m having some issues setting a resolution. i’ve got the game running at 1920x1080 but the screen still has some enormous letterboxing at the top and bottom

I’m about 6 missions in, and the first level appears to be intentionally significantly harder than the missions after that. I think they want players to think “Well sure, this wouldn’t be as hard if I could fight this with better gear” so that you’re thinking about how to come back to levels later with a purpose built loadout.

mappings seem totally manageable for kbm fwiw

rebinds

the game doesn’t automatically change button prompts to kbm but the setting is under “input device settings”

plays really well like this! (bear in mind ctrl, backspace, space, left, and right are all on my left thumb with my keyboard)

i’m glad the controls are working out for you. this series was always extremely remappable compared to your typical console game to where you could put like, move forward on R3 if you really wanted to so i was hopeful you’d get to enjoy it.

reminds me a friend once ran a small kusoge tournament where one of the rounds was 1v1s with prebuilt ACs, sega fishing rod controllers, and randomly remapped controls

painting these things is so much fun. this is my first armored core game and this kind of dumpster mech looks right as it flies in circles by accident and swings its sword at nothing

i want to marry this fucking game

i also hope the dev who had the brass balls to suggest putting estus flasks in a goddamn armored core gets the fattest bonus of all time

if i’m gonna be a nitpicky asshole i almost feel like the movement is too buttery smooth? literally just started playing it, still on first mission with default AC tho so we’ll see how that keeps up when i go tank legs because of course i will

also no fcs??? whaaaaaaaaaaaa

BLADE COMBOS?!?!?!

wondering if this was intentional but the vertical catapults are such good environmental storytelling, its like the future hellscape version of american cities being 50% road surface, just tells you so much about their infrastructural priorities

like what doors on zebes could have been had they thought about it more

(also could MTs even use these? pretty sure they’d be AC only because you’d need thrusters to use them? hmmmmmmmmmm)

The opening 30 minutes does an excellent job of making you feel like Death on Two Legs before introducing something that immediately casts doubt on your abilities to Boost-Megadeath-Repeat your way to victory

Typical FromSoft Stuff. I love it

Made it past the first duel type situation on the first try. Might actually be able to beat this game.

Edit: boyfriend pointed out that character codename 621 is shared in common with website e621

Let out an actual tear at seeing the poison swamp in this

I’m playing on PC with a dualshock 4 using the Type B controls. Type B is pretty similar to what I played the AC4 games with: L2 is jump/fly, R2 is quick boost, with Square and Triangle for the shoulder weapons. I prioritize movement, so this works better for me than Type A. And against bosses or when dueling you can switch to Target Assist and the camera will follow your target, allowing you to take you thumb off the right stick to fire those shoulder weapons.

Overall, the game is great but I’m not entirely sold on the stagger mechanic yet. It prioritizes DPS too much for my liking. I prefer to chip away at my opponents in a battle of attrition! I’m only in Chapter 2 though, so my opinion may change.

Also, bosses are quite difficult without a heavy damage build. So if you are stuck on a boss, just build a tank with dual laser canons and machine guns. There’s a hard boss at the end of chapter 1 which this build trivialized.

The giant walking thing is the first mission I’ve struggled with but only because it’s annoying with limited boost

Yeah, I thought that level was a bit annoying as well. And you have so few parts unlocked at that point in the game that you don’t have any options other than to manage with limited energy supply.

I hear that later bosses aren’t brute-forceable with my strategy above, so that is a good thing.
