Crystal is like…idk, it’s fine? i remember hearing it’s closer to the manga, which i haven’t read, but i didn’t find it very charming
yeah part of what I liked about the original run was the full-blown 90’s anime charm. what I’ve seen of Crystal the most notable thing seems to be how low budget it is.
I’ve always liked that Taurus’ ruling planet is Venus, because it perfectly compliments our fundamental stubbornness with a lady who wants to fuck and tells us what to do
yeah I mean that really sums up taurus but then but they are maybe the easiest sign to sum up so
Finally watching Carol and Tuesday. The whole AI thing feels more now than it probably did six years ago. I’m enjoying so far, watching dubbed because I heard Thundercat is in it.
i think we just merged anime talk into the Cartoons (Part 2) thread
I made a pissed off thread a couple years ago about dipshits treating every piece of animation from Japan like its literally hentai and unfortunately selectbutton at the time proved to be also full of the same sort of dipshit sorry
anything is pornography if you’re dedicated enough to crank one out to it
I was listening to the Howard the Duck episode of How Did This Get Made and they describe a scene with very obvious sexual iconography (it’s been a while since I’ve seen the movie, it’s not the early 90s any more, I can’t just watch local stations on the weekend and get the greatest hits of 80s movies that bombed) and had the thought “…is Howard the Duck tentacle porn? did George Lucas help codify tentacle porn?”
anyway, the current state of hentai is dire and
interesting hentai was a product of the bubble economy.
companies giving piles of money to animators and telling them to make anything they want for the home video market just doesn’t happen anymore
companies are still making hentai
they’re just the most godawful 15-20 minute powerpoint presentations and they seem to entirely be mining doujin comics and DLsite games for material
I for one love seeing my favorite RPG Maker games have their sexual animations get a few more frames of animation 12-18-months later
(whistling cheerfully) hey fellas!!! i wasn’t listening to any part of your conversation cuz i was too busy playing the newest release of Changed and being a perverted dumbass furry. Boy are weirdos like me eatin’ good lately!! Anyways, here’s that thing u ordered, TTFN, honk-honk
hopefully saying my last piece before accidentally getting a split off into a porn game thread
I’m glad that creators have revenue streams like (maybe) Patreon and other sub services to support them making horny games
however I’m dying at the 2-3 month update cadence
Patreon makes a move like it’s going to put a stop to NSFW creators every year or so and then flinches at last second presumably cuz someone on staff realizes that cutting off revenue from small porn makers is an insane idea and the fuckin Pomplamoose money sure isnt gonna make up for it
things I shouldn’t be checking at work: I’m sorry, the CoC and TiTS dev makes 30k a month
i want to display the series of panels of Gengar getting up and standing on his seat in a museum
that’s what i mean! there’s nothing like urotsukidoji or adventure kids or pop chaser in the past 30 years with good animation and insane plots and such
I watched all of Dirty Pair including Dirty Pair Flash. Dirty Pair Flash has a rough first season but gets better after that. It never gets as good as Dirty Pair though.
i watched From Up on Poppy Hill last night for the first time, and i think it was an all around B+ of a good time. i could see it working as a film, too, as there isn’t a whole lot about it that screams “we needed animation for this story.” i know Goro has a reputation for being worse at this than his dad, and between this and Earwig and the Witch (which i did not like very much) i can certainly understand why, but i do think they are just going for totally different vibes in terms of storytelling.
i feel like Poppy Hill has discernible sexuality in it, which is not really something i have experienced with other Ghibli works (larger implications of the bathhouse and No Face in Spirited Away, aside), and i don’t just mean to say this because of the “is it incest?” subplot that emerges and quickly vanishes, though obviously that’s part of it.
that said, even though it often feels like some kind of sense of unconscious nationalism that’s present in most Ghibli works, the portrayal of 1960s Yokohama sure does seem like a wonderful place to live.
