ANIMAL HARVEST

the thing I hate most about post-moe anime character designs is how it’s meant every girl has baby hands in every anime since

hands not even as large as the pupils of their tumorous eyes

POCKET CAMP FINAL UPDATE / REPLACEMENT GAME DETAILS FINALLY REVEALED

(Previous Pocket Camp discussion also took place here - Animal Crossing Codes)

Ten bucks US until late January as a one-time payment with no additional in-app purchases, events will carry over to the new version on a cycle (I’m reading that they condensed the past seven years of events to a 4-year cycle), new area in which you can see your old friends who sign into the original game in the next month / possibly are added via new cards?? This is by far the most satisfying way to sunset an online game of this type that I’ve seen. @familyjules and I are a lot happier than we might have been.

(If you might sign in during the next month and hadn’t already added me, my number is 9746 7384 124.)

Considering how far these games have moved in the direction of allowing more and more control over your village, I was surprised to see this new Slumber Island feature where you can completely level edit a separate island… IMO it’d be nice if future games could go back to treating you as just a resident of a community rather than its god, but use the slumber island as an out for players who like to completely customize everything.

the reason I stopped playing animal crossing was because of thst yeah. the point for me was to always be this outsider acclimating to a more relaxed way of life. the terraforming and completely changing the island and taking over every corner of it is just what we do to animals already. my favorite game breaks my heart now. so I hope in the future they give me a way to completely ignore being a property developer

lmao this posts tone compared to the OP… so sad…

You’ve hit the nail on the head, but furthermore, an issue is that you simply can’t suffer from any negative consequences.

Villagers don’t move out, you get to decide where their houses go, it’s essentially impossible to get scammed by Redd, you can reset and time travel to your heart’s content.

The game was already essentially Minecraft Creative Mode. I think the next game won’t have the Slumber Island be the “out”, I think it’ll be the main gameplay. The current creative director is the one who was behind Happy Home Designer and it shows that that’s what her priorities are.

It’s never gonna happen but I hope they bring back some of the kinda mean and nasty little dudes (at least in writing style) from the Gamecube and DS versions.

It’s fun to see those snotty little shits be rude! I mean it’s probably jarring for a kid, and ruins the “cozy vibes,” but sometimes neighbors just kinda suck!

it doesn’t ruin the cozy vibes!!! that’s my whole point with cozy games lately. it doesn’t have to be jerking you off telling you everything is gonna be okay all of the time, the mechanics just have to be low pressure. the story can go as dark as it wants!

animal crossing is grasping onto the wrong idea of cozy game and it just shoves me away so hard. i do not want to be king nofur, high lord and emperor of the animal kingdom!! NOT cozy!!!

With the new update looming I dusted this off the other day. This game rules.

I made a Bud Light hat as soon as the game came out, I’ll dig up the code later.

i’m torn because on the one hand i’m so saddened by the series giving the player more and more godlike powers over their homes and the people who live in their town and i want it taken away, but i also feel like there was so much creativity that players brought into the game when all of this editing stuff showed up

if it were up to me i’d structure it so that you’d only ever be editing something that you could never be a part of…like you would make a layout for a town or island or something and spend a lot of time on it and then it would just become a layout that someone else could move into, whether it’s a new player or a player wanting a change of pace

I just think the games should have a creative mode separate from the regular mode the way so many survival/crafting games are set up

I’ve been getting recommended videos from a weird grifter ecosystem on YouTube that exists to convince people that there are new information updates daily on the upcoming Animal Crossing patch.

I watched a couple out of curiosity and they’re literally just videos insisting that other people within the same cohort of Animal Crossing YouTubers “confirmed” things that were already outlined in the 3.0 trailer.

It’s honestly fascinating to watch these. Video after video trying to make content like a cartoon character slicing a single bean. Multiple ten minute videos to say “last time they didn’t announce everything in the trailer so this one is probably like that too maybe”. The algo life is rough.

Kind of a relief that im not the only person getting inundated with these.

Nintendo is dealing with 2 problems, one of which they are choosing to solve with Animal Crossing and one of which is inherent to Animal Crossing.

1: Nintendo needs a Minecraft sandbox series, and unfortunately for Animal Crossing it’s the closest in theme to fit that bill while also retaining some unique aesthetic identity.

2: The original appeal of Animal Crossing was a game you’d play on a schedule; you could load it up each day for something new. In the past 20 years that has gone from a novelty to a fine tuned psychological trigger used by everyone. The two paths out of this problem are to unshackle the intent from the obligation machine (which is what I suspect Tomodachi Life is), or to have more emphasis on the player expression part (the minecraft path).

they should go all the way back and double down on the gamecubes villagers disdain. everyone should be fucking mad at you for digging up their terrain and moving their friends in and out of the neighborhood. like add in the social consequences of your actions more. the villagers need to revolt

im hearing that slumber island, the “creative mode” basically, is locked behind nintendo switch online, even if youre not playing it online. even though i prefer the game to have less player agency or w/e the idea of a creative mode was the most interesting thing to me in this new update. having to pay extra just to mess around with it by myself has made me lose nearly all interest

This feels like EDF, where my entry to the series was the one everyone hated but was still pretty rad on its own merits.

I guess I should see how the old games work.

Tomadachi Life was kinda my on ramp to New Horizons. And it definitely feels like a meatier version of that. All it’s missing is trying to suss out everyone’s favorite foods and a weird RPG combat minigame.

Oh and having tons of kids to send around the world and potentially never see again.
