I do not know the name but I was surprised scrolling through this thread for the first time that Nook and Isabelle were wearing specifically Okinawan style Aloha shirts.

I do not remember the name of these shirts.

There we go.

I can sort of respect it but it seems like the completely wrong time to announce this? The TemTem people got real lucky with Sword Shield backlash by comparison.

I have a feeling they were banking on folks who don’t have Switches wanting to play this but uh

uh

yeah everyone has a switch

Anyway there’s still a chance I would play this anyway because I’m a sucker

it gives me big time kingdom for keflings/xbla vibes. but like, all you have to do to win people over when youre making an animal crossing clone is LET PEOPLE BE AN ANIMAL but nope.

Kinda surprised we never got a Sanrio or Sylvanian Families based clone of Animal crossing, but I guess these games require a crapload of dialogue and art assets

On the subject of Sanrio—

I’m pretty curious whether any of these characters will show up in any other AC game. Doubtful, but curious.

Yeah I’m just surprised no one else has made a straight clone of AC until now with this Hokko Life game. The two properties I mentioned just feel like the most fitting to the AC style of game.

Although now I am getting weird images in my head of a Simpsons game where you move into Springfield and can find other residents like Homer wandering around and hear him talk in Animalese style ‘dohdohDOH…dohDOHdoh’

Castaway Paradise was the first true AC clone I’m aware of, came out in 2015. But I seem to remember it ended up being a F2P nightmare or something

i looked it up and it says you can only have 8 players per island, which also means, 8 players per switch, which is yikes :frowning:

The game “Village Monsters” looks vaguely like it’s going for Animal Crossing altho the impression I get from the summary is that it’s going for a genre-twist/more goal-oriented

Hokko Life looks more design-focused than Animal Crossing with the furniture stuff & house placement, kind of reminds me of MySims, a series that has truly vanished from public consciousness despite them making 5(!) sequels

Although definitely none of these are as directly aiming for the aesthetic qualities of Animal Crossing.

The earliest straight Animal Crossing clone I remember was Konami’s Magician’s Quest, which lifts the home decorating, animal friendship, and flower planting from AC directly. I’ve been trying to find Konami’s trailer for it, which they seem to have scrubbed from the internet, but did find the trailer for one of the japan exclusive sequels which seems to have gone in more of a Style Savvy direction:

Was at first thinking it was definitely inspired but has put it’s own spin on it until the fishing part at 2:52.

twice as many as before! awesome. i think they realize everyone’s gonna want their own town like everyone wanted to be their own mayor and visit other people’s towns on 3ds

living in someone elses town is like playing tails in sonic 2 anyway

But nobody gets their own town, everyone on the switch has to live in the same town :-/

i mean thats how its always been, if you play on the same system you have the same town thats what i meant. thats why its like being second player in sonic. you’re not ACTUALLY playing, its just a sample

animal crossing is a single player game that you can play with other players but only in their or your single player world

its good for people who arent going to be as into the game as you. cuz like, if both of you are really into the game you’re going to be wanting the switch at the exact same time anyway, you’re gonna want your own events in your own town on your own switch. thats why the features for secondary town members are never as robust
