ANIMAL HARVEST

i’m pretty sure new leaf let you have one save per copy though? i know animal crossing on the gamecube just required separate memory cards. my concern is that, in order for more than one person per household with one switch are to have their own islands, it means that everyone else needs to buy a separate switch as well, instead of just another copy of the game. like, yeah, you won’t be able to enjoy certain events at the same time, but there’s plenty of stuff to do outside of that, and a lot of events repeat anyways. and it’s also gonna be worst if additional players on the island do have less options because that means only one person is really playing the game. i don’t like that!!!

nope, it’s always been one town per console besides the gamecube workaround of different memory cards. if you’re into AC enough that you want your own town it seems to me like you’re going to be competing for the console anyway and it’s probably a mix of that and nintendo being nintendo that you still can only have one town save even though we have way more storage space now

i can’t remember how i felt at the time but i currently think the idea of sharing a town is cute anyway. work together on big projects, leave letters for each other. cute

yeah sharing a town is the best part of multiplayer animal crossing anyway

I’m too obsessive to share a town. All about those flowers. If you run on my grass I will kill you

Seen some people pointing out that if you owned both a digital and physical copy of New Leaf on the same 3DS they would be separate towns but that’s such an obscure workaround that I doubt many did that.

Wild Worlds is probably the only game in the series where each copy of the game gets its own town no matter the system? That’s really more due to the storage medium itself though.

Still kind of sucks that Nintendo wouldn’t allow it on Switch when there’s not really any technical reason why they shouldn’t. Even Pokémon lets you have separate save files per profile now!
While they have confirmed that you can neither use cloud saves or save transfer to another system they did mention that they will have some sort of workaround if you buy a new system which sounds extremely vague.

did you have no running signs right by the train station

Honestly Nintendo probably is forcing one-town-per-console just to avoid trying to build a UI prompt that can explain the ramifications between picking ‘share town’ or ‘exclusive town’. One of the few holdouts of “design as selecting options for the player” in a world where PC influence has swept through, even to the point of mainstream performance options in console games.

sharing a town just kinda sucks, unless you’re not that into the game. if you get really into animal crossing you want your own town because its ultimately a single player game

Yes. Pixel art and signage was one of my favorite aspects of AC.

Terraform this UNTAMED land at your own whims.

I like the almost implied little drumroll to Isabelle’s reveal.

“Put furniture outside” held little appeal for me for the longest time; it’s probably the part of Pocket Camp I make the least use of. That Direct today might just be turning things around, though. I want to see what y’all do with this in a setting you have so much control over.

In other news, they just added earrings to Pocket Camp, so I guess those are confirmed for Smash.

yeah at first I was like “why would anyone care about being able to put furniture outside” until I thought back and remembered that one of the things I most wanted in previous animal crossings was the ability to make the town really wild outside buildings? I love the idea of being able to just throw stuff out there and really personalize it in a more direct way than “hey I want a fountain here in 3 months”
