it is simultaneously very validating and very depressing for me whenever i see other people share anecdotes like this about being in games world
yes!! was thinking of this specifically because of this game: The Snow of Basidia by Modus Interactive which itself is more of a demo piece showing some of the lighting styles in action
yeah Iād much rather it be easily accessible. just kind of gets on my nerves when itās used as a crutch in lieu of having actual style, or as cheap way to cash in on a perceived trend. maybe Iām just grumpy and old tho
itās one of the main reasons why Iām working to leave games world, among other things
imagine your COO, the guy at the top making all the creative decisions mentioning that he was watching search party and talking about how he didnāt get it. not that he liked it or disliked it or whatever but actually didnāt understand what the show was trying to do
itās like, buddy - you are the person making all our creative decisions for us and you canāt understand the (pretty transparent) mechanisms of a TV show about millenials? and you have the gall to sit there and act like the decisions youāre making are in the service of a better game? incredible
in a way it is both a relief and a sadness that even the other paths i may have taken in life had i decided to go the CS route instead of the liberal arts route would ultimately have probably resulted in a similar kind of ennui and slow-burning rage
i made a silly mistake and forgot to add one of the matchup polls, everyone whoās voted please go back and vote for that one too!!!
ugh forgot another one, all of them should be added now
Becoming a vaporware developer is the smartest thing Iāve ever done, and thatās saying a lot because Iāve lived a long life filled with wise decisions.
I would get so much more done if I had gone into vaporware developmentā¦
would vaporwave dev be slowing down a 90s licenced mascot platformer and messing with the color contrast or
Huh. So if we exclude smartphones from the definition of the market, Nintendo is now a monopoly in Japan?
Crazy this happens at the same time as there are 4 major platforms in most of the world (I would include Steam, which I get the sense is not popular in Japan either)
Very excited at the prospect of a Turing/Ampere derivative Switch successor (imagine 240p frame buffers with baby mode DLSS lol)
The PS5ās willful disregard for economy of space canāt have helped but I suspect itās more of a software thing ā domestic Japanese studios can keep similar production values to 3DS/Vita games at higher resolutions
the switch form factor is like 15w actively cooled, right? they could probably squeeze 2-3 tflops out of that but tbqh Iām not sure that they could do much more with that form factor they arenāt already doing to a more constrained degree
The near-total disregard for foreign games in the Japanese game market is quite something. Itās like Americaās attitude to foreign movies back in the 50s. I guess in both cases the local country was truly a powerhouse in the medium in its early decades and it takes forever after being in that position to start giving other styles a chance
Yeah, hence imagining some weird lateral move like tiny resolutions scaled well. Nintendoās the only customer that makes sense for it.
(I should say I mostly just want BotW with better performance, not any kind of VFX or image quality bump)
