Zelda: Cries of the Commonwealth

I like this game more than TP, SS, both DS games, and even LttP, but the character writing and plot tone feels significantly worse and way more “children’s TV”-like than OoT.

i keep wanting to write a post about this but i can’t really do it justice. basically i’ve been unable to play most 3d games for like 3 years or so because the spinning camera just makes me instantly nauseous. but for some reason i had the urge to zeld that surpassed my own concerns for physical well-being so i decided to get it anyway. i started playing in like 10-15 minute increments with eye rest breaks in between and have somehow been able to work my way up to being able to play for like 40 min at a time without experiencing too much discomfort. so my progress is still slow but it’s like so rewarding.

on a similar note i don’t think i’ve been so enraptured by a zelda game since lttp. i was kind of turned off by how drastically it seemed they revised the formula for botw, like i didn’t really get what made it a “zelda” game even if i understood the formula was stale. but now i get it. it’s hard to explain but it’s definitely there.

i also really appreciate how non linear it is. my wife and i have both been playing and just because we started off wandering in two totally different directions our experiences have been radically different so far.

anyway it feels ridiculous to express gratitude to a corporation but i am honestly so thankful that this game has gotten me over the weird video game induced dizziness hump to allow me to enjoy this hobby again. it was honestly kind of making me depressed to feel like i could never play normal games again. thank you zelda. thank you nintendo entertainment company.

PRO TIP: You can repair weapon durability by feeding the weapon to a rock octorok and retrieving it after they spit it out. In BotW you could repair rusty weapons this way but here it will restore durability and also give it a random buff like increasing attack power.

me finding a korok in a cave for the first time when i’ve got a hundred and fifty god damn hours on the clock

I haven’t even touched this yet despite owning it for weeks and it’s partially because of how many hours people are saying they’re putting in to this game.

I can barely stand to play anything that’s more than like a dozen hours these days

I find it daunting is all

it took me a couple weeks to really get started too! the first few hours are kind of a lot to get your bearings. but darn is it good

I randomly got the “how to throw inventory junk” tutorial pop-up, and I have to say that I think that these controls are perhaps a bit much. The next zeldo and metro should probably pare things back just a smidge for the sake of our hands.

On the other hand, apparently you can skateboard on a shield fused to a minecart, so I guess this is the best game ever by default.

(still on tutorial island – stopped for the night just before the cold part)

worth noting this can only be done once per blood moon

Can anyone give me an NPC style hint about the most effective way to defeat floormasters (big hands)?

idek if there’s a trick, i whacked them a Lot with a strong spear. you can also just seek high ground and they’ll disappear after a sec

I usually avoid them or master sword if I have to but I’m in a part where I have to defeat a lot and can’t run if that makes sense. Gonna load up on beefy spears.

ohhhhh INteresting i wasn’t sure if the reward for defeating a pool was something that you like had to come across or if it was just a cheeky lil bonus

you can freeze them

this isn’t an npc hint so much as a hack developed over 100 hours but bullet time bomb arrows. especially with a triple shot bow

Yeah Gloom Hands dislike smoke.

was disappointed that putting a sundelion on an arrow did not fuck up gloom monsters

I spent the weekend chasing the Yiga boss around the depths until he casually dropped Ganon’s whereabouts, which was a real head slap of a reveal for me.

I popped over there only to get wrecked by henchmen. I’m perfectly content to let that deter me for now because I do just want to keep playing this goofy game. I may even do all the shrines!
