Kind of impressive how the cartoon managed to predict OoT speedrunning tech

how many times have we heard this sort of thing though and it never comes out as interesting as it sounds. far cry 2 pre release they were going on about how it was two sides in some kind of dynamic civil war with each participant a named person who could get killed and replaced by the guys below them or promoted to replace guys above them etc with some arms dealer out there you were free to stumble upon or track down through the plot or whatever. and then they had nothing remotely like that, not even the wild life or brush fires behaved like they were supposed to. I’m still miffed about that one. and phantom pain was supposed to have some kind of story you could learn or not by seeking out intelligence but it was just irrelevant tapes about parasites and burgers and you got them just by playing the game

honestly this game just looks like a super generic open world whatever to me. fantasy ipad because I dunno these games have ipads. ok, great. wasn’t gonna play it anyway, so carry on I guess. sometimes I think I’m the only gamer who just does not care at all about these open world games. I was thinking the other day, and I was like – why would I ever play this over Witcher 3, but then it occured to me that literally everyone who will play this game has already played the Witcher 3 and it made more sense.

If the reality matched the bullet points Witcher 3 would have made all video gaming irrelevant. Strangely a sharper Bethesdalike was not enough to quench all thirst for novelty in games with large maps.

it’s The Witcher 3: For Kids! Edition.
Also maybe some people prefer Zeldas style and iconography over The Witcher? Or bought a WiiU instead of a PS4

Witcher (3) is also really narrative heavy and not that environmental interaction heavy, it’s actually a lot like a chilled-out, move-the-story-along skyrim but with actually good writing and combat and world design

This looks more action-y, to whatever end

wrong, actually! I’ve never played The Witcher 3. I’ve also never gotten more than a quarter of the way through The Witcher 2. Despite Geralt’s chillness, there’s not really anything that can make me like these games.

Maybe one day I will play The Witcher 3, but not before Zelda.

BUT also I agree with Felix in that RE: this doesn’t really look like The Witcher 3. Honestly, this looks more like Metal Gear Solid V: The Without Motherbase Simulator

Nintendo’s slow moving to cop from contemporary trends. The new elements they showed are lifted from older games. The resource management is Monster Hunter (which is the most logical influence based on saturation) and physics simulation could be any game since Half-Life 2. It’s funny that they could have made this game in 2006 when the iron was hot.

iron’s always hot for nintendo

metal gear solid 5 was a very good open world game and I’m a guy who does not like open world games much. it was good because it had its roots in a mechanically solid action series. I’m vaguely hoping that this will be the case with botw as well. I don’t know. the problems with zelda games have never been their mechanics at all, just the overall world/level/game design was stagnant as fuck. this game seems to have finally gotten rid of all the annoying clunky interface shit (ie item switching and stuff), and if it’s as smooth to play as windwaker and still has some degree of ā€œtightnessā€ I will be super into it.

@toups (jr) and I are settling into being the Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wind Fan Club

I feel this - someone around here [citation needed] said MGSV’s level design is a collection of MGS3 maps that are contiguous. The action is still present while the controls are effortless for the first time. (CQC is the one area of ā€œprogressā€ that removes options.)

Wind Waker came out when I was still definitely a kid and it felt expansive at the time. It didn’t occur to me, for example, that each section on the map would have exactly one location of note. The endless pit mini dungeons could be actually endless until the Triforce quest requires you complete one.

If this game can feel as elastic as my stupid kid idealized memory of Wind Waker that’s exciting. Still, lost fucken decade between Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword.

I didn’t like how overly excited the internet got about new Zelda. I think that excitement will dull soon enough.

The internet got way excited about this while it was hugely meh about Dark Souls 3 (and still is). I’m convinced this new Zelda will be pretty crummy compared to Dark Souls 3, but I still don’t think the difference in excitement is wrong. Actually changing your formula after years of stagnation must count for something. And hey, maybe this means the next Zelda after this one will be different too??

ā€œreturn to the originsā€ Zelda

I almost wonder if Dark Souls 3 would have gotten more hype if it had been in development longer. When I stop and think about it I actually find it surprising how quickly From manages to turn these things out.

I didn’t even know they gave link a PDA till I saw that here. Nintendo what the hell? I wish they would help Sony make an awesome Vita successor.

Speaking of, the existence of the HyrulePad in this game proves that the NX will have the same basic controller design as the Wii U. Nintendo is doubling down on the tablet + TV concept. That implication seems to have been insufficiently noted.
