Open-world survivalist Zelda sounds neat. Combat looks as jank as ever, though.
Promising first impressions aside, expecting a Zelda to be a not-Zelda in any regard is really setting yourself up for disappointment, tbh.

So Dragon’s Dogma? You just described Dragon’s Dogma. Which I know you liked, but you did just list stuff in DD.
Well it’s probably about time for Zelda to try ripping off something besides itself over and over.
DD is pretty close to an ideal 3d Zelda if you simplify it and cut out more of the collectible cruft.
I’m unfazed here, pretty much every “new” (let’s say post Wind Waker, can only remember so far) Zelda trailer looked promising in some way with the games most likely missing the spot, and[quote=“HEAVYVIPER, post:83, topic:1983”]

It’s simplistic and maybe a little spazzy, but Zelda combat, in my mind, is preferable to the shit going on in Witcher or Skyrim. Or Assassin’s Creed or God of War, etc.
I thought wind waker had great combat, but it was never really used well
See post #11
Yeah, I’ve always thought Zelda 64 onward (I haven’t played twilight or skyward) had decent combat models, just terrible encounter design and implementation of it. To much waiting for for the enemy to let its guard down with little in the way to create openings on your part.
Some of this really doesn’t sound like expected Zelda, though…
“Users may not actually get the full story depending on how they play this game and how they strategize and solve puzzles,” producer Eiji Aonuma told Polygon. “Users are able to go to the very end goal without revealing why Link woke up the way he did and where he did. Whether you want to reveal the storyline and find out why Link woke up, or you want to just go straight to the goal, that’s an option totally up to the user.”
“Anybody who can go straight to the goal without doing anything else — there’s two possibilities,” Aonuma said. “Either they’re a really good gamer, or they could be somebody that’s a little bit crazy. But it’s not impossible. I created the game like that.”
This Zelda certainly looks to have most area to traverse. I could see Nintendo’s reasoning for making Zelda and Pokemon their showcase games of E3. I just feel like Nintendo is wasting all of our time.
Hmm. I hope the buzz about Nintendo combining handheld and console teams (and platforms) doesn’t impact the development of new 2D Zelda games. Tri Force Heroes might have been kind of a charming misfire overall, but it let you put Link in a dress and it cut out a lot of filler, which this game seems to be all about.
well, people on neogaf have started deciphering the hylian runes and finding all kinds of weird hidden messages in the E3 demo, including a zero wing reference
Super hyped to be disappointed by the significance of the thermometer
Does this game take place inside the Animus?!?
i really like that you get a fantasy ipad
Whats getting to me the most about all the gameplay vids is that it looks like a game that’s actually fun to move & play around in. the no. 1 thing keeping me from replaying the past 3d Zeldas is the awful virtual kinisthetics.
ok im mostly thinking of the shield surfing but WHATEVER THAT RULES. IT RULES THAT YOU CAN DO THAT.
big boss did it first
i was secretly hoping this new Zelda would crib from MGSV and i’m happy to see some positive results. if this game has any micromanaging customizable spaces, it’ll be a BINGO on my “TOTALLY BUYIN’ THIS BINGO” card
Zelda is the series that almost always has shields on the cover even though nobody ever uses them in game
This issue is solved by introducing shield surfing
Yeah the only question for me is whether I should get a Wii U or wait and see what the NX version is like.
I just want to climb mountains and slide down them on my shield all day while setting fires to bushes and stuff.
I will sell anyone my Wii U and either play this on an emulator or not at all
Please buy my Wii U before this game comes out and it becomes dead weight
Hmm I’ll keep the offer in mind, for sure.
