Zelda: Breath of the Wild

B-but that’s lore-continuity-timeline nostalgia pandering . . . . .

Idk what it is but its cute af

Does Link…not have momentum? What a dumb little thing to kill my enthusiasm.

yeah the new footage they released today does not look great

has link ever had momentum?

I don’t think so?

Not really, unless Skyward Sword was different

so I guess that’s why I’m wondering why this would kill anybody’s enthusiasm for it, especially since it would have already been noticeable in the E3 demo

The horse had momentum.

None of the other games were about travelling in a 3d space on foot. Seeing him run up to a cliff and awkwardly stop triggered something in my brain.

I wasn’t looking at the environment which is pretty but unexciting.

The games focus is seeing Link’s friction with the world.

The 2D Zeldas have the dash you can’t stop.

Why is it bothering me now? I don’t know but it is. Enough to hold off on getting it. So clearly they are going to delay the game until Switch’s release yeah?

W… What

awesome

I’ve been known to delay things until switch’s release too

But actually I’m pretty sure this was supposed to be a cross platform simultaneous launch all along like twilight princess

I’m actually not sure how this factors into what you’re saying, but yeah, you can stop it by just pressing a different direction on the D-pad

Our Zelda-y game both has momentum and not momentum. The walking motion is a straight up position translate, but there’s also a rigidbody with physics attached for stuff like getting pushed. I think it makes the fighting-ish responsiveness feel good, but also give momentum to “bigger impact” stuff like getting hit or using movement items.

Every 3D game with characters should adopt Mario 64 physics.

Well. Wind Waker had a boat. Most of the others had a horse. Thats how you got across the world.

None of those really felt great. The boat got closest.

it was maybe not a huge problem, just a small one, that Link’s movements weren’t super fun. For Breath moving Link needs to feel Mario 64 great. It sure doesnt seem like that is the case.

Movement is unfortunately one of those things that’s hard to judge until you’re actually performing though.

i never really read this thread and sort of forgot this game existed until the switch conference trailer

this is the first zelda game released in my lifetime that i have any inclination to play

also the first iteration of link i would totally let bone me hooooly shit ;-;

(plus, a deliberately-gender-neutral protaganist design that isn’t a child, a handful of pixels, nonhuman, or character creator spawn? that’s seriously amazing. i… actually can’t think of any other examples of that right now???)

climbing to the top of a mountain and gliding across the overworld looks like the best thing

i am unusually attitude for games right now

What makes you say Link is gender neutral?
