yeah Drums and Wires and Black Sea are both good and have a similar sound. also Drums and Wires has one of the best album closers (and best XTC songs) of all time
also here’s a good XTC live performance from that era before they gave up performing live entirely due to Andy Patridge’s stage fright (which i can personally relate to a lot i will say)
it takes a special insight to mix a vocal and an fm lead line with that much mid-to-treble content
this producer is not to be taken lightly in probably any context. this producer will kill again
this compilation of early death in june is really excellent. it’s a lot of the great post-punk or darkwave Joy Division-ish songs they wrote before it became douglas pierce’s band with mostly current 93 neo-folk inspired songs.
Back on my bullshit of trying to decide which version of this song is better it’s almost certainly the Kylie original, but there’s something to be said for that meatier percussion in Wink’s cover
Also now I’m finding out there’s like two other versions? One concurrent with the original? What the…
Oh yeah neil cic has girl talk beaten, handily. Hes a skilled musician in his own right (Lemon Demon is consistently fuckin sick) who also displays such good taste with his mashups.
Like, this is barely even a joke it’s mostly just a good remix. i could expect to hear this at a club
girl talk was already onto other stuff by the time any of the mouth _ records came out. i’d be surprised if neil wasn’t at least partly influenced by GT
also, girl talk is like dopamine-excess club shit. it’s not really going for the same vibe as neil’s surreal comedy stuff.
