Your song of the moment (Part 2)

that’s historically one of my favorites record, though I don’t listen to it that often anymore. filled with amazing performances and huge emotive moments and fun songwriting.

finally possible to find this on youtube again

I spent a whole month obsessing over this album before looking up more about the band and finding out they both died in a car crash 4 years ago

“the hit song ‘In a Big Country’ off ‘Big Country’ the debut album of the band, ‘Big Country’” is a music thing I think a lot even though the album isn’t actually called Big Country. It should have been.

I do like that lol its like if Talking Heads had a song called “We’re a Bunch of Talking Heads” or something

I guess They Might Be Giants did that with “They Might Be Giants” on They Might Be Giants

The best version of this is the Fat Boys, who have a song called Fat Boys on their debut album Fat Boys, and the song The Fat Boys are Back is the first track on their follow up album, The Fat Boys are Back

one thing i can say for the Fat Boys is they know how to set expectations

wow i didn’t realize how much this song sounds like XTC to me now. stuff like:

(in terms of sentiment at least, maybe not as much sound) or maybe like

i guess that was a little subgenre of UK music of that era.

oh sure, theyre both rock + power pop adjacent sounds to me

god Skylarking is a good album i got really obsessed with it a few years ago

as i post this the crickets and katydids are chirping and buzzing outside just like the beginning of the song… its a hot summer night and my A/C is hummin… couldnt be a better set or setting. Drowning here in summer’s cauldron

i have a longstanding love/hate relationship with the music of XTC but they have a lot of really great songs. aside from their big albums (Skylarking and the Drums and Wires thru English Settlement era) Nonsuch i think is a low-key underrated album also (tho i can’t stand the production on Oranges & Lemons). Mummer as well. certainly not perfect albums bc Andy Patridge has annoying lyrical/songwriting tendencies that repel me a lot sometimes, but a lot of great songwriting ideas there regardless.

they are one of those bands ive meant to go deep on and just havent for no actually good reason. You know, one of those ones. Everything i have heard of theirs has been extremely my shit though. Really on point with the kinda music sensibilities i have, big, melodic, weird. learning the main singer/songwriter is sometimes annoying only encourages me hah

this is another one that gets into my head a lot. Like that drum beat by itself is addicting
