Your song of the moment (Part 2)

i just finished listening to parting of the sensory, such a good song.
this album is very nostalgic for me, i’m listening to it because i am very tired and need something familiar in my ears

i really like modest mouse tbh but i basically only listen to the same 3 albums when i do

i’m a massive fan of everything they did through Moon & Antarctica, which is just a flawless mood-setting record imo

i find nearly everything from This is a Long Drive up through Moon pretty incredible, including The Fruit That Ate Itself and Building Nothing out of Something

their post-Float On work feels significantly less consistent, but the highs are still pretty great

haven’t heard the latest one they put out, though

RIP jeremiah green

for me it’s the moon & anartica, we were dead, and good news

good news came out when i was in high school so i guess that’s when i got into them
float on played constantly and i remember watching the video for it a lot

we were dead is just honestly really formative and i’ve been listening to it since it came out. the lyrics are painfully relatable and let me navelgaze privately to myself. i just feel like issac knows what it’s like to have endlessly shitty things happen to him and is really talented at putting it into song. water sign rep helps too i guess. i used to be really into panda bear, who is also a cancer dude / dad type who sings life lessons all the time.

all these squares make a circle, etc.

this is exactly my modest mouse take haha

well, lemme edit: when moon and antartica came out i was like UGH THEY TOTALLY SOLD OUT (i mean they did, gravity rides everything being in a car commercial made me SO UPSET) but id listen to it at home non stop

MEM-O-RIIIIES
when i got arrested i was super deep into that album so it was stuck in my head all the time. there was a bed bunk in medium security with all the lyrics to every song written on the underside that id read/sing (sing in my head i am not going to fucking sing out loud when im sharing a room with someone. THE PERSON NEXTDOOR TO ME DID NOT HAVE THIS COURTESY AND I HEARD THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER SUNG OFF KEY IN THOSE THREE WEEKS MORE THAN I HAVE IN THE REST OF MY LIFE) to like comfort myself to sleep while being nervous about ruining my life

modest mouse talk reminded me i used to “save” records in a discography for discovery and memory-making later

like i’ve sat on wowee zowee for 20 years and now it’s like “yes, it’s time — wait, the lyrics to kennel district are different”

Dälek is so good. I first saw them touring on Filthy Tongues opening for either Tomahawk or Fantomas, and I’ve been catching them at every other often awkward opening slot they’ve had since (Russian Circles, Daughters, some local metal band that was playing in a suburban bar with the most inept sound guy in the world). They don’t have the turntablist from that record anymore and they’ve really really leaned into the shoegaze influenced sound since but the later records still rule.

Also they’ve done a bunch of collaborations with the krautrock band Faust that are exactly as rad as the concept sounds

They’re totally one of my all time favorites

I dust this one off periodically.
