i have a prediction that this is going to be a popular album among certain demographics this spring and summer…
These are not just Scott Walker songs but Walker Brothers songs from their last record in 78. Clearly he’s the genius at the center of them, but whoever uploaded these listing them as Scott Walker songs is kind eliding how weird it is that these came from a Walker Brothers record. They’re insanely cool, mysterious, and horrifying.
has anyone out there really written well about how much bowie is wrapped up in walker and possibly the reverse
I’m certain. He’s definitely acknowledged it. He covered the above song Nite Flights, and produced a documentary on him.
Right, you can see that they’re drawn to the same songwriting style, embodying personae and trying to tell a story through uncomfortable lenses.
David Bowie spent his whole career trying to find his identity in attempting to absorb the essence of authentic weirdo American musicians he worshiped and never quite getting there. see also: Iggy Pop and Lou Reed. he had the success, they had the authenticity.
kind of a tragedy really. and set the model of a pop star as someone with no real core who kind of absorbs everything around them. Bowie’s made good music obviously but he’s kind of a malevolent figure to me who had occasional moments of grace. not a person i’d ever trust if i was one of those people and he crossed my path.
scott walker rules!!! ive been obsessed with him since i saw scott 1-5 on what.cd and was like what kind of man has the audacity to name albums in such a way and then read about him and got obsessed like everyone else with working ears, im wearing a scott walker shirt right now!!!
love that shirt
Scott Walker made a career out of covering Jacques Brel songs, so maybe getting influence from another country’s music isn’t such a bad idea.
I listened to Brel for the first time last week, and it was such an intensely sweaty and french sounding experience.
a perfect song
paolo, take me with you?
i knew someone online who used to strip to this one
my fave early scott
My best friend from childhood released a new song with his band. If you still like Weezer, you should give it a listen. It’s pretty good!
I DO still like Weezer. This is really good
i only like a few tunes from this record but this is one of them, love the sea shanty 6/8 feel
(the other one i really like is parting of the sensory)
