Discogs is a user generated database that tries to catalogue all recorded music. Everything has a decent amount information logged such as release date, genre, style, country. I can waste hours just toggling different criteria. I think I found that album just by filtering for 1980s and China.

I also do that! Under the “styles” category there are so many genres from around the world. I just click on them randomly to see what they are.
