Tucker’s Deception: Invitation to Kobold
If you’re looking to steal some ideas there’s this DriveThruRPG.com
thanks y’all, if it becomes more than a passing fancy maybe ill make a thread for workin on it
there only seems to be a starter set right now. is this completely new or a translation of an existing japanese game? the set of dice it comes with at least offers hope that it isn’t just a 5e reskin
stats on the pregens appear to be STR DEX VIT INT MND so it appears to not be a reskin
best case scenario it’ll be about as good as the dragon age ttrpg (which had better mechanics than the video games by a long shot), a bespoke trad combat-centric rpg that fits in somewhere between D&D and Savage Worlds in terms of crunch
would it not be appropriately full circle for a Final Fantasy TTRPG to be a DnD reskin?
yeah but in a dispiriting way
just like in the 3e era, the glut of 5e reskins is poisoning the scene
i kept getting advertised this ghibli knockoff 5e game that made me pissed off every time i saw it. laser calculated to extract millions on kickstarter
I know which game you’re talking about (but can’t remember what it’s called) and fuck that game
A lot of the d20 srd stuff was at least enduringly amateurish. It reminded me of all the really early AD&D skirting stuff like those Role Aids books, the Arcanum, or Palladium’s output
All the 5e recycling games feel weird and glossy and predatory.
the way that full color art books with glossy pages done by art school grads for sale on kickstarter will call themselves ‘zines’
it’s brand new, but I want a ffxiv story game
Can’t believe he named his company after his birth year
What universe is this guy in where there aren’t dozens of ‘cozy’ RPGs and supplements getting pumped out on itch every week.
he’s in the D&D bubble. Games on itch don’t exist, there is only 5e.
In this lifeless realm, there is no Wanderhome, there is no The Forest Hymn & Picnic, there is no Golden Sky Stories, there is no Ryuutama
there is only D&D products and D&D supplements and anyone who tries to play anything besides D&D is an ‘elitist’ because supporting an itch creator with < 100 followers is an act of elitism
Further down on the page he breaks down the list of inspirations and Ocarina of Time and Breath of the Wild are noted separately. That seems both unorganized and uncool.
Full disclosure, I did buy the hell outta that self published DCC monster booklet where everything is a legally distinct version of a Zelda 2 enemy that some other internet guy made.
If you’re going to be picky about which Zeldas you’re upholding, pick the cool ones.
The best 5e supplement (because I backed it, and then have never gotten anyone to play it with me) is Brancalonia
There are detailed rules for non-lethal bar brawls that are treated as a key component of downtime between quests
This one was cool because it actually had some ideas on how to change base 5e into something distinct, and the setting/genre was an appropriate fit for D&D
