when I was 2017

idiosyncratic things, mostly: I get motion sickness very easily. my eyes are bad and not getting better. I get headaches. I have pretty garbage awareness of my surroundings in the best of circumstances and derive no pleasure from that. visual immersion or whatever does not rate as a plus for me. if a magic future VR environment existed whereby I experienced a seamless, painless, easy disconnect from reality my reaction would be terror. my desires do not work in a way where I would ever look at the weird headset sitting next to me and think to myself ā€œtime to play the video games that use this thing,ā€ and then strap it onto my face. I want to be able to take a sip of water while I’m dialed into my entertainment sphere without feeling like I just Ruined The Experience. I don’t even want an experience to ruin, actually. I pause frequently. most of the time I’m playing something I’m listening to something in the background or I’m idly alt-tabbing out of it to do nothing because my brain doesn’t work anymore. I just could not think of anything further from what I want out of a video game than VR.

a sequel to frame gride, maybe?

Ace Combat 7 looks like a delicious mashup of the PS2 games + Electrosphere and that is all I need

Seconded, and it is (kinda?) confirmed for 2017 => that’s gonna be day1 purchase.

Nier2: Day1

Persona5: …… tbh, two years ago I’d have been all yeah, Day1 purchase, but I think that the window for this release has passed. Might buy, but seems a bit unlikely atm.

That Detroit-game for PS4 will also be trainwreck-day1 material, or so I hope!

……… and I’m forgetting something huge (not AAA-wise, but what I absolutely will buy/play) atm.

i’d only ever use VR for combat flight sims, because in an alternate life i would love to fly P-51s over europe and whatnot

VR + IL-2 Battle of Stalingrad = $_$

thanks, this is a good Radiator article.

He’s really talking about how to foster an art-friendly VR scene, and not turn it into a replica of Steam. At the same time, for as poisonous as Steam can be, it gave artsy indie projects their first chance at success – Steam’s just not solved the problem of harassment and conformity every other social platform has. Sure, itch is great, and a great community, but even if there’s a healthy artsy VR scene there, you’ll still need to engage with Steam to make the bulk of sales.

Art funding is great and I’m hopeful but Seattle has two independent papers and a big conservative one and none of them see fit to cover games in the arts section, even after we have a permanent museum exhibit dedicated to indie games. We’ve got a long road, but I guess like all patronage art it’s going to be a small nervous game of grants.

also he shows LUNE and LUNE is the best VR game bar none – VR nonphotorealistic rendering is strapping on some alien creature’s eyes. It’s incredible.

STRAFE is not a bad game but I’d temper expectations.

oh, nidhogg 2! kinda love the weird mid-'90s ms dos game look

holy shit this is hard to look at

Is it the head movement on a big screen? Quick head movement can be nausea-inducing on a large monitor not strapped to your face.

My favorite is the color/texture of the space-foil at 1:50; the natural thing to do is make a blanket fort out of it, protected from the stars

maybe, yeah
gave me the sort of low-level headache i get from sitting on a bus at a red light. (vibrations and whatnot, y’know)

I’m playing through Gravity Rush now and… I like most of it that isn’t the gameplay, which at this point feels really thin. It’s not bad and I’m happy to see the concept/world get another shot, but mainly to see if they can take a big step up rather than just revisit what they already accomplished.

That’s a long way for me to say Gravity Rush 2… idk maybe.

yeah I have to say for as lovely as it looks I am a little skeptical the combat will hold up

noted. how recently did you play it??

P5

Gran Turismo Sport, maybe?

I have literally no idea what games even come out anymore

Mecha or sci-fi Souls sounded neat, but now that’s just too good for this world.

And this reminds me I’ve never checked out the Escaflowne game for the PS1.

I played STRAFE two weeks ago. It’s not inconceivable that the gamefeel and balance will fall into place by the time it is released. The worst case scenario is that it is a slightly worse first-person Teleglitch, but if it had a bit of extra time and a Tim consult or two it could easily meet expectations.

Day 1 viewing of Super Best Friends playthrough, guaranteed
