we're in a guitar center hanging out now (formerly the electronic music tech appreciation thread)

Well they finally went and did it. Wow. $2000, damn.

2000 is a laptop that can run ableton + akai keyboard controller

sooo expensive

the adat is pretty swish, we have to make do with expansion via usb
though we can do a lot more than 8 channels with it

Honestly seems a little strange it’s x86 and not Arm. They’ve already got a native build for the Apple M machines? Doesn’t seem to support any kind of 3rd party Linux plugins/vsts, but does run Max4Live stuff.

Apparently the brains are a modified? Intel NUC Compute. The wording on the product page made it seem to me like it would be more user upgradeable, but I guess in reality they’re just suggesting they might release stronger $1000+ complete upgrade boards in the future.

The Intel® NUC Compute Element combines a processor, RAM memory and WiFi. It’s the first Intel® processor to be adapted for Push, with upgrade to a more powerful version possible in the future.

Shoulda gone space brained and just had it run Windows and put an hdmi port on the back, imo.

Also it doesn’t include a full real Live license you still gotta pay $300-500 for that jeez.

Still no way to use Arrangement mode? Still no way to map the LFO modulator device? Ableton I love you, v3 on G3 snow iBook, I am your biggest fan. Please.

i was really confused as to how audient were counting to 14 on my interface before i figured out what adat was

okay that is a bit odd. force got hammered by internet enthusiasts for not launching with an arranger ready to go; fixed eventually but

I got this as a gift and I really want to learn how to use this, but I’m not really sure how to make it happen. The included software is kind of broad and confusing, and at least some of it is bloatware.

you need a daw and some vst instruments
alternatively, try a standalone vst (i.e. one you can run without a daw)
free shit: Best Free Instrument Plugins - KVRAudio - Page 1 of 85
if it came with some arturia ones, you can typically run those standalone

this is sick i wonder what the acoustic projection/volume is like for jazz combos

The Squier Sonic series has an “Ultraviolet” Stratocaster like the Jimi Hendrix one from a while back.

Pair it with a pink strap

Nice

Ok, so I post a lot in this thread about airwindows Chris. I try not to do it too much but he released something that is philosophically changing my thought process when it comes to mixing a few days ago.

https://www.airwindows.com/console0/

My favorite console emulation he did before was Console 5. I would do mixes, export, then put Console 5 on the mix, export, then send both to the band and every time they would choose the Console 5 version. I don’t want to get into what these plug-ins actually do here (but if you are that type of nerd feel free to dm). There was a very nice roundness to it that just always pleases the ear. I’ve tried each subsequent one and they are all very good and similar but, when I have wanted the thing I know, I’ve gone to Console 5 for some years.

Console0 is, IMO, a really cool idea for the future of digital mixing and I believe it will have an effect on how future DAW mixers are coded. With current norms in digital mixing, similarities to hysteresis in analog gain stages rely on floating point maths for digital faders and pan controls that affect accuracy in reproduction of the audio recorded to disk while translating through the digital mixer and then DA conversion. Console0 seeks to avoid this by using prior art that Chris has developed to avoid manipulation of the mantissa of gain affecting values within it’s mixer design.

Mantissa means anything to the right of the decimal point of a logarithm (dB is a logarithmic scale). It can also mean a lesser work in support of a larger treatise (such a good word).

This stringent math means that implementation of Console0 limits flexibility in mixing as straight up volume changes can only be in steps of 6dB (as this is the lowest value to change without affecting the logarithmic mantissa). Pan is also limited to 5 possible positions (L, LC, C, RC, R). Pan also affects the loudness by -3dB per distance from center to help give arrangement options in the mix. I think I got most of this right but I’m not 100% as this is some new stuff to me. Anti-alias ultra-sonic filtering is a big part of the nice sound of these plugins as well.

I have a kind of funny side gig currently mixing a demo tape and am planning on secretly mixing it with Console0. Something tells me it will be pretty good.

it still astonishes me that no corp has licensed the guy as a name brand
fuck knows i keep mentioning it to my overlords

Me too. I think he is really resistant to corporate influence and probably has something going on beyond the Patreon. I am happy to support him even though my main thing is not audio right now.

Have you checked out Pafnuty2?

https://www.airwindows.com/pafnuty2/

edit: Oh yeah. All his stuff is free MIT license BTW. All of it. Your overlords could just take it with attribution

i told them that too! though i’d prefer it if we gave him some money for summat nice

No fancy GUI. Is that all it is?

I guess there’s some new Paranormal Squiers, though, nothing really stands out as particularly interesting outside of the bass. I think the older Paranormals were way more interesting, I still want to grab a Toronado at some point.
