I’ve been wanting to get a bass but it’s hard to decide on one. I almost grabbed the Competition Orange Mustang bass, but I grabbed the guitar (of course), instead. I’m also really intrigued by the Bass-VI.
Ibanez’ Soda Blue is one of my favorite colors. I’m not a big fan of the way Ibanez basses look, but it’d be rad to get a Mustang in soda blue.

the ibanez body is unremarkable besides being light with contours but it was cheaper than the mini-p and had PJ pups

The Talman is probably my favorite body shape of all time, and I have stupid love for the strat style output jack being on the plate with the tone knob. Not a fan of the PJ setup (for me the J just gets overpowered by that P, would rather have a humbucker instead of the J)

Well about a week ago I decided: I will clean the filth from the inside of my guitar. Pictured, partway through the process:
The upper pickup cavities looked about the same as the switch cavity pictured here. The long black rectangular object is the fully fossilized remains of foam that used to press up into the wiring & underside of the pickup selector switches (to I guess keep them from rattling about? seems unnecessary tbh). Luckily it had not I guess degraded into sticky mush or dust. I just popped it off in one piece and put it in a little baggy for posterity, and continued on.
After vacuuming, wiping, scrubbing, drying and polishing; the state of the brass shielding plates:
The smarter way to do this would be to take the shields completely out of the guitar, but…they’re like nailed in and also secured with a little sharp stopper triangle of metal that is banged into the wood of the guitar and then soldered in place. At least the tops cleaned up nice, who knows what lies beneath?
Cleaned up the switches’ undersides, the pickguard, and the pickups as gingerly as I could. They’re made out of…not sure what you would call it…fiberboard? material - seems like it’d start shedding/shredding fairly easily with cleaning. Careful not to lose any of the handwriting ink, etc.

The Competition Orange Mustang from CME arrived today. The body is nice and everything no complaints about the finish, but the neck has like, a goofy burn or black Sharpie mark on the headstock and residue on the neck that are both underneath the glossy finish so I can’t just wipe them off. I can deal with the stupid looking sharpie mark on the headstock, but the shit on the neck is unsightly – all I can think of “doesn’t wash their hands after taking a shit”.
I think Indian Laurel is one of the advantages Squiers have over the MIM Fenders it’s just too bad they always look like they’ve been sitting in a warehouse in the desert for 100 years. This fretboard wasn’t as thirsty and ashy-looking as the Competition Blue one, at least.
Otherwise, neck feels fine.
I’m still debating if I should get a Telecaster and if so, if I should get the dope-looking JV Modified 50s Telecaster or a Japan Junior. Or maybe I should get a Japan Junior Stratocaster? There’s a really nice MIJ Fiesta Red one with a rosewood fretboard, but the MIM one with maple fretboard and the matching headstock is also really nice…

hell yeah. they are really great for the price point. a lot of options and good synth engines.
i’ve been after something i can just sit and play with keys, it’s definitely between that and opsix for me.
