had to do a bit of research but this ended up being surprisingly easy to use for a concept i hadn’t heard of an hour ago

My beautiful and trusty 10 year old Push 1 has finally succumb to stickiness. Akai or Ableton, like seemingly all other myopic hardware designers, decided to coat it that rubbery stuff that unfailingly degrades after a few years.
Ok lets fix it.
Removing ~50 screws and bolts has allowed us to extract the forbidden gummies sheet.
Not pictured, sorry: a couple hours of soaping, rubbing and soaking with isopropyl, acetone, goo gone, scrubbing with bar keepers friend, wet sanding with high-grit sandpaper and carpaint rubbing compound, buffing with d.a. polisher, etc.
Ok, no longer sticky. Bye bye.

I busted out my old M-Audio controller for the first time in like ten years recently, and the knobs and sliders on that had devulcanized or whatever. I had to give it the rubbing alcohol treatment too. I don’t know why folks think those rubberized finished are a good idea.

so: i am told it’s because the rubber coating hides the knit lines that occur with injection moulded plastic, especially black plastic

bought one of these today! i’m going to use this and stubbornly refuse to learn anything more advanced, i’ve already got it mapped out on djay for my phone so i have 3 band eq and faders, i’m just going to use sync so who cares about tempo control

It looks like they’re bringing back the Squier J. Mascis Jazzmaster this Summer which is cool because after it was discontinued most people held onto theirs and those that are selling them are doing so in the $500 range (which is a bit hard to justify when the Junior Japan Jazzmasters are out there for like, ~$350 more). I assumed that 40th Anniversary Jazzmaster was supposed to be a temporary replacement, but I guess the pickups are different. Still, that satin desert sand 40th Anniversary one looks real nice.
Speaking of desert sand, I’ve been eyeing the desert sand Duo Sonic for a while. It’s so sleek.

(ETA: Also, the J. Mascis has the tailpiece closer to the bridge like the HH Modified Vintera Jaguar).

The 40th Anniversary Jazzmaster seems like basically the best Squier guitar ever made (ok maybe the 80s Japanese Strats, fine, sure). It does still have like, mini pots and and typical Squier wiring, and the white knob/pickup-cover plastics seem a little stark; but the maple neck and (unique?) tumbled-metal hardware with the sand/gold-guard is very classy. Actual Jazzmaster pickups (though the bridge is apparently wound extremely hot) and correct vibrato position + Mustang bridge seems like a much more desirable spec than the J. Mascis’ P90s and close Tune-O-Matic setup. Seems like a no-brainer if they get into the sub-$400 used prices eventually.

i saw these on fender’s US site as coming soon for $1,800 which is, uh, eye popping and gives me a little bit of FOMO for the current ebay prices. i wish they had a rhythm circuit because i love it on my jaguar

Duo sonic looks so so cool! I love them and some mustangs and broncos, not to mention a forgotten symmetrical goat - doublecut melody makers. Toy-like non-offset guitars are best. I think offset guitars are basically ugly. I want to put 2 jazz pickups in a p-bass body (not pj, jj) with a jazz neck. I mean I love my jazz bass but I love the symmetrical p body way more. I want firebird pickups in anything that doesn’t look a firebird. Everything should be short scale too.

Bought an underpriced at $75 harmonic tremolo pedal but it’s not the one I wanted and thus, not good. Sometimes I’m just right and nothing else will do. Makes me feel like a musician, being so displeased.

Yeah, it’s unfortunate they went the Fender Player route for the Junior Jazzmasters. I presume simplifying the control scheme is part of the Juniorification. I’m tempted to get one of the Stratocasters (though hard to justify when I already own a Paranormal Cyclone since that already serves the purpose of a smaller more comfortable guitar with Stratocaster pickups) or the Telecasters, though, that green and gold 40th Anniversary Telecaster looks real nice.
Dang, I didn’t know they were releasing them out here. $1,800 is ridiculous – I wonder if that’s purely a Fender USA-defined price or if that’s there’s some kind of chunk of that that’s going back to Fender Japan because you could import the fucking guitar paying full-ass price, no discounts, and shipping from Japan, and it’d be less than that. In California, that’d be almost $2,000 with sales tax. At that point, you’ve already sunk heavy into the “way cooler guitars available” price range. I could probably get one of those wicked Competition Orange Mustangs Fender Japan re-issued a year or two back for that price, or a Competition Blue one. I guess if somebody really wants a short scale Jazzmaster and don’t want to just mod a Jaguar or buy a used Jagmaster. Also, pretty funny calling it the Junior Japan collection but charging almost $2k for it – keep mowing those lawns, junior, in a few years, you’ll be half-way there.
The Mustang body looks like a Ditto.
I think Firebirds look kind of cool. I don’t really like guitars with no or little pickguards, but there’s something about the Firebird that looks kind of cool in like, an eep oop ork ah-ah kind of way. I’ve been wanting to try one, but not enough to go to Guitar Center to see if they have one to try.

i actually have a mexican telecaster i just happen to disike the body shape of so it’d be a straightforward mod
i recenty got an ibanez mikro bass that is absurdly good for $130 even if the electronics are noisy as hell. frets came dressed better than the sterling stingray we got in 2021. it’s shorter than my 24" scale fenders
now that’s what i call sonic blue
