been experimenting with a jazz tone that doesn’t sound like every other jazz guitar mfer trying to express a perfectly regular sine wave with a 20db mid boost. rn that mostly means a fuzz pedal going into a drive/preamp into a Quilter Aviator (tweed-style amp, with medium-high gain but the limiter on max). so basically the clean tone is this thick sound without obvious crunch but the compression sustain characteristic of an amp that’s breaking up. with the fuzz on and guitar volume around 6.5 (tone 5), it becomes a not-obviously-fuzz-but-velvety tone with a little bit of bite to it. turn the volume up further and it gets brighter and fuzzier in a way that’s really cool. the drive pedal in front of it also accentuates the transients when it’s on and adds bite to the notes.
obviously if you volume max then it becomes death fuzz god slayer mode

Yeah Arturia’s stuff is great for working with all sorts of stuff. Haven’t gotten to mess with a Beatstep yet, but the Keystep is such a nice thing to have around for hooking into anything.
You could probably get a cheap P90 body and mod that to what you want – I think all of the current Fender Player Mustang bodies are routed for humbuckers regardless of whether they’re labeled as a P90 Mustang or not. You’d just have to route for slide switches if you wanted that (and possibly make the pick-up cavity larger depending on the size of pickups you’re using). (ETA: Or, grab a Paranormal Cyclone body, those have a swimming pool cavity and are routed for the control diamond set-up which I like the most, and Cyclones will have that nice contour on the back; I believe Cyclones can be intonated with a 24" scale neck, as well).
Apparently, the slide switches are for coil selecting and the three-way switch is the pick-up selector.
I wanted to grab the Junior Japan Jazzmaster since it’s 24" scale and presumably a bit lighter, but they’re the most expensive of the Junior Japan models. I was looking at a Vista Series Jagmaster the other day, but I didn’t think it was worth what the guy was asking. Maybe someday I’ll just look for the lightest Jaguar body I can find and build a Mini-Jazzmaster.

the traynor was only up for a day but damn, these are next to $1400 fenders, $2200 boutique amps, and $300 literally-broken-but-funky univoxes, supros, silvertone, etc. unreal deals to be had on vintage power so long as it’s 100 pounds and has some vaguely “butt” vibes. sorta glad i have no money or space because i’d snap this all up for no reason.

my housemate moved out months ago and left the basement room available, which I’ve slowly been moving stuff into, a few weeks ago I found this lean-to style shelf/desk thing on the curb and I hauled it home (I can see why they got rid of it! flimsy and heavy with little actual use) and then took all my stored music equipment and set it all out. I have been amassing this equipment for…over a decade now. I rarely make much with it since these things take up precious desk space. maybe now it’ll do more than just collect dust!

The SK-1 was such a staple of my stupid noise set up for so long, and I’ve never found a good replacement (although the microgranny feels close). This might be the one.

I sorta wish it was more toy and $200 cheaper. The video keeps showing neat shit and it should just cool out instead.
I think the thing that makes it seem awesome is the somehow noiseless mic but I dont think it’ll be like that for real. I have a “Frankie” by brandnewnoise and it’s basically a talkboy with delay and it has an internal mic that’s noisy as hell.
When I caught wind that the QChord was going out of production back in early pandemic days, I finally bought one before the prices shot up. I’m wondering if whatever this new one is will make me regret that.
