WE HAVE TO GO BACK!

I’m really considering this because it feels like more entries should have done this, but yeah you’re right. It’s just Link Between Worlds.

Even the CDI Zeldas have completely different maps, despite being released on the same day.

Four Swords Adventures is stage based, and I wasn’t seeing any similarities between it and LttP in terms of actual map layouts, but I’ve never played it so it’s hard to say. Still, seemed different enough.

The two GBC games are completely different as well even though, again, they were released on the same day.

I guess technically you could say that both the original Zelda and OoT have second quests that use the same map, but…I wouldn’t count that. Seems not in the spirit.

Weird.

we can’t forget that the entirety of zelda 1 takes place in a small alcove at the bottom of zelda 2’s overworld that less than one screen in size

almost mentioned this lol. when i was a kid, i got so thrilled when this was pointed out to me and got so excited when i’d see it in-game. in fact, when i play it still, i feel some weird echo of excitement for it

YEAH I WAS GONNA MENTION THIS but then i got so into looking up CDI maps i forgot

it’s hard to work right now because i keep thinking “C’mon, there has to be one example of a re-used map” but i really can’t even come up with a single re-use case here. Not even like, a very clear and direct homage!!

other than this one ofc

is there a galaxy oddity thread for “games where you revisit a (prominent/notable?) location from an earlier game in the series”?

e.g. dragon quest ii, king’s field iii, wind waker

(…does gta: san andreas do a liberty city excursion at one point? is it an actual location from iii’s map?)

ran a cursory search’n’skim but didn’t see anything

I’ve heard so much about BS Zelda over the years but how am I only now finding out about THE ANCIENT STONE TABLETS?

I didn’t know this one bit of trivia and it might be the thing that tips me over into actually attempting a proper playthrough of Zelda 2

dragon quest iii, mgs4, dark souls iii, monster hunter generations (arguably others too but you’re getting a little silly at that point), pokemon g/s/c… sorry i know this isn’t the thread but i wanted to get them down

SPOILER ALERT FOR ZELDA/ZELDA 2

Honestly, major ups to whoever it was at Nintendo who decided to do this

I don’t remember visiting Liberty City in San Andreas, but GTAIV is set there, although not much resemblance between those two maps other than the broad strokes and major landmarks. That said, GTAV specifically recreates the Grove Street cul-de-sac for its version of San Andreas.

Incredibly, BS Zelda uses its own map

it’s just a little slice in a single mission:

i think games which revisit a location as a whole can possibly be excluded… e.g. tears of the kingdom? red dead redemption: undead nightmare? far cry: new dawn? idk the line is surely somewhat blurry

if mods could please move the galaxy oddity “revisiting places” talk to its own thread, maybe. i’d like to pursue this further. at your leisure

fuckin…

okay but

THIS uses the same exact map as LttP, but in new ways!! I think this actually describes the idea better. whew.

Just to add to Meauxdal’s info, Liberty City is also featured in the prologue machinima film The Introduction

yes! thank you!

mods can merge the discussion here into that one whenever appropriate

yeah you go for one mission and if you get outside of the interior it’s a little slice of Portland from GTA 3 with no collision, enough that you can see its in the same spot and has the same architecture. there’s tons of videos of people flying out of bounds to liberty city. i suspect the liberty parts of the introduction were shot on the surrounding streets because it looks like they’re in hell when CJ is carjacking that guy
