I think you time a single run of X (where X is a unit of distance), and once you stop the watch, read off the bezel - it will say that many Xās per hour.
For example, if you time a car driving a mile, and it goes one mile in 40 seconds, the bezel will tell you thatās about 90 miles an hour.
If youāre timing the car driving 500 feet, and itās 40 seconds, the bezel says thatās 90*(500 feet) per hour.

and then time them, make them come back and then give them ceremonially their results, doing the maths as @stylo already mentionedā¦ wonder though why the first two probants ran away w/o ever coming back ā¦ they must have been busy (no wonder they were going fast

My watches:
-Seiko SARB033, paid the aftermarket price off YAJ but still got a great deal. This gets the most wear
-Seiko 7548, predecessor to the SKX, quartz so itās very cheap to buy but comes from an era when quartz was the fancy new tech. Supposedly the build quality is higher than the SKX. Also has a kanji date dial. Wear and tear on a tool watch becomes a patina and I like it
-Enicar, unsure of model, I thought itād be cute to get a Swiss watch although turns out I donāt care much about model movement. And Iām finding Manual watches more a pain than anything. But itās a beautiful Polerouter homage and Iām pleased with the crocodile strap I also thrifted. I wish I owned this watch in time for my wedding, but wore the SARB instead
-G-Shock 5610 that wonāt lie upright, I only sometimes wear this to the gym, might sell it on?

itās kind of weird but interesting that the g-shock strap (which cannot be made to sit flat) is a key part of the shock resistance. you can run it over with a car and all that force is going to go into flattening out the strap before it even gets to the watch module itself.

Getting myself a cheap CASIO digital watch for my first wrist watch. I canāt really look at my phone on the floor at my job, or when I am riding my bike, and I also donāt want to be on my phone so much either. Seemed like it was time. Happy to not have fallen for the immediate power-user pitfall and got myself something basic.
